Target plays this in a promo for her new album I think. I've heard it plenty of times in the store, but I haven't actually seen the TV ad. The chorus is catchy and gets stuck in my head.
Hush with the thirty year old comment, especially when a lot of our faves our that age (or older/reaching that age in a few years.) Going by your avatar, you stan for Bey, right? Well I do too and plenty of the girls try to drag her for not making age appropriate music. Everybody needs to hush and let these women breathe + do what they want.
I do agree that most of Carly's music lately, and even before, is lackluster and she is missing that magical touch that a lot of other bigger, more successful mainstream artists have. I do like quite a few songs from her new album, but overall the album is just ok.
I don't mind the 80s synthpop direction tho. That's her lane.
Personally I don't really understand the "magical touch" point, she writes amazing pop music and the musical quality and effort that Carly has put into E·MO·TION is basically beyond the quality and the effort that EVERY OTHER ARTIST of the past few years have put into their works. And I'm sorry, but the album is way much more than just "ok", I know I could could sound biased since I'm a fan, but E·MO·TION is a real pop gem and masterpiece on basically every single side also, as I said in the past, she had the balls to release a TRUE pop album in a moment in which pop music isn't that appreciated, almost representing the indie movement. You guys can say whatever you want, but the truth is that Carly is one of the few REAL artists of our generation.

preach!!!
Carly has that magic touch to the critics and audience who love GOOD music, not some instant ****** music dominating the charts right now.

No, believe me, you're opinion as a fan is actually extremely important considering it is the fans who are the ones who understand their favorite artists the best. At the same time, though, I feel like my opinion is just as important considering I am one of those people who will listen to an album or artist's discography a dozen times to try and get why people like them, etc. I'm not that quick to write someone off as being one way or another... I try to see if time will show what I am seeing.
And that's really what I've done with Carly. I liked Kiss, but it felt watered down in some places and I feel the same way about this new album. Because I do like a handful of tracks from each, maybe it isn't that she lacks a magical touch... She just lacks a really consistent magical touch that the other girls who make pure pop/generic pop/bubblegum pop/whatever the term you prefer have like, say, Katy Perry for instance. I feel like suggesting KP is a quality pop artist is a very controversial thing to do so lemme bounce from this thread. Plus this is the single thread so. asdhfkjdasfdasf

I find your point of view very interesting and I agree about the fact that fans are actually those who really understand an artist, at the same time I agree that is important that the artist should be able to connect with non-fans too and, in my opinion, if it wasn't for the "Call Me Maybe girl" tag, Carly would do that with no problem.
Also, I understand what you're saying about the generic pop point, in my opinion tho, the fact is that Carly's music isn't generic, it's simply 100% pop, which is different from "generic". I like Katy, but I don't think she's the right one to compare. I personally don't really find a western artist who does what Carly does, I see more similarities with some asian acts maybe, and that's probably why she does so well in Asia.
Nah, not really. It looks like its impact date in the UK isn't until next month though?

Fair enough.

This is where you lose me. Is that last part a joke?
Emotion should be the next single and film a very controversial and very vanilla-y basic theme like make it like a Wizards of Oz theme and it will get attention

Ok I just checked and it has 64 spins over the last month. It was at 0 spins when I checked last week though Capital FM is starting to play it a little.

If you look at the airplay chart you'll see that no stations there have played it in like six days. Capital and Radio 1 played it like once or twice each a week ago and haven't since.
