Spider-Man is doing fine. It was released in the US less than a month ago and will outgross the Winter Soldier when all is said and done.

Why is the title $281M?! It's $261.8M.

Domestically that's very unlikely, WW it's do-able but we'll see... The movie itself was a flop of Spider-Man 3 proportions though. They have such a giant budget, it should have slayed and it didn't.

oh I know that, but it deserves to outdo it tho

Wow the X-Men movies are kinda low grossing aren't they. DOFP will easily surpass those numbers.

Averaging to ~$110M is sorta safe, but estimates come from early receipts which don't exist for Monday yet so it's a little to include that yet... still, topping $281M blows X3's debut out of the water

Remember to account for the difference in 3D prices and expansion of the market place internationally since the early half of the 2000s.... but yes, X-Men is a lower grossing franchise generally than the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That's so sad tbh. And lower grossing than Transformers too, that's even worse

Avengers and Iron Man - they are solid movies, really, really great. They deserve success. But this X-Men movie is better than Avengers, CA2 and Iron Man 1 (their three best) so should gross over $1bn too but sadly it's most likely to end up in the $750-800M bracket based on estimations right now.
I'd love if it got a mega-boost next week from word-of-mouth so its drop was small

Let's hope the word of mouth be out of this world like Avatar, dropping 1% in its second weekend

Just back from the cinema. (Spoilers)
I thought it was great. It reached a level of "epicness" that the previous X-Men films didn't, but also didn't jump the shark and get ridiculous. It was entertaining yet not dumbed down - which is rare for superhero films. It felt well balanced between action and drama, and they handled the whole past/future concept solidly. The cast was great of course, and I felt the cameos at the end demonstrated a sense of quality and pride in the franchise. They could have cheated that, but those actors appearing so briefly brought it all together. It didn't feel like an unnecessary sequel, and I like that they've opened things up for future films now that they've basically pulled a JJ Abrams and created an alternate universe where new stories can take place with the same characters...yet they haven't undermined the original films.
The only thing I would say is that it was perhaps a little obvious that they were riding Jennifer Lawrence's stardom by making Mystique so integral, but they do the same with Hugh Jackman so no matter.
Curious as to where they'e going to go next. It'd be interesting to explore how they cope in this mutant exposed world they're now in. Hank beginning his political career? Xavier creating the school, and in the process meeting the young Storm, Jean and Cyclops? Could they play with mutant celebrity fame?
Then again, that after credit clip was pretty out there. It'd be fun to see them explore early history mutants.

Mystique is actually that central a character in the comic version! But tbh they're right to push her in the promo for the movie, show the world Oscar Chanteuse JLaw is serving nude blue slayage
