I'm really excited for him tho. I figured they probably would have a male performer after two years in a row of mainstream female performers. I figured they'd have a band, but, shocked it's such a new act. I thought it would be another old fart/heritage act/country year (which usually for the Superbowl Parties I attend means muting the TV and blasting Biggie for a few) but, I'm glad it's not. We had entirely too many years of that after the Janet/JT fiasco.

I think everyone is surprised with NFL decision to pick such a new act like Bruno to headline Super Bowl. He'll be the youngest act to headline SB in years.
They said SB in 2014 have to face cold weather. I guess they think female acts with their mini outfits couldn't handle it and senior acts are too old to face extreme weather.
That's why they broke tradition and pick new young act instead.
Like you said they wanted a band. Bruno may be a solo act, but his performance adopted band concept. Bruno took a note from senior musicians who also his idols Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band and Prince & the Revolution when he formed The Hooligans.
