Just bought this. The Target I went to is such a flop though, they didn't have this or Stronger on the shelves so I had to ask an employee and he got it out of the back... I mean, really, no one else asked? I guess.

The Best Act In The World Today by monthly music publication Q Magazine at their awards ceremony in London.
Coldplay have been well decorated at the annual Q Awards in the past, dating right back to 2000 when they won the 'Best Album' award for their breakthrough debut album 'Parachutes'. They followed that up in 2002 with second album 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', in fact, the band have even won the 'Best Act' award twice before, taking the title in both 2005 and 2008. It's perhaps no surprise then that the group won it for a third time, fending off stiff competition from Muse, U2 and The Arcade Fire among others. U2 wouldn't have been too disconsolate however, as they were chosen by the magazine's readers as Top Artist of The Past 25 Years.
Reception and reviews for Mylo Xyloto has been mixed ahead of release, which is perhaps understandable given that Coldplay front man Chris Martin told MTV that it was 'a schizophrenic album'. However, professional reviews have been cited as "generally positive". Read on for the MTV article posted today...
It may be their best, biggest and boldest album yet, but Coldplay's Chris Martin knows which adjective he would use to describe the band's brand-new Mylo Xyloto: "It's definitely a schizophrenic album ... it keeps changing sounds," he said. "That's why we called it such a strange thing, Mylo Xyloto. Because we felt like so many people have already made up their minds about us, both good and bad, that we can sort of start again from scratch and try and reflect all the music we listen to and we love."
That sentiment is readily apparent throughout Xyloto, an album full of walloping electronics, soaring choruses and quiet, tender ballads. In a lot of ways, it plays very much like the band's personal iPod, packing anthems like current single "Paradise" alongside artfully minimal instrumentals and hushed acoustic numbers like "U.F.O." Even Rihanna shows up, lending her vocals to the track "Princess of China." And that shuffling schizophrenia is due as much to the band's taste as it is the ethos of frequent collaborator Brian Eno, a man who practically lives to break down boundaries.
"Working with Brian, he was very much of the opinion that you should just be free to follow whatever you feel sounds best," Martin said, "without worrying about having to talk about it in interviews and everything and explain it."
And, given all that, it's somewhat fitting that Mylo Xyloto actually began life as a far different animal: a quiet, acoustic-based album. But as their songs began to grow, Coldplay quickly realized that their self-imposed parameters couldn't contain their ambitions, so they scrapped them and started from scratch. And, not surprisingly, the end result is a record that defies convention — and, of course, definition too.
"Very early on in the process of recording this record, we were playing a lot of acoustic instruments and we had it in our mind that we might try to record a small-sounding, intimate, reflective record," drummer Will Champion explained. "And [a song like 'Paradise'] came about, and it dawned on us that we couldn't play it in that acoustic style. So we thought, 'OK, we'll finish this one and then we'll do another record,' and the realization came very quickly that we can't really focus on more than one thing at once.
"So we decided to put everything in one basket, and some of those songs from the acoustic thing survived — the song 'Charlie Brown' was originally in that format and 'Us Against the World,' " he continued. "And I think putting all our eggs in one basket allowed us to kind of free everything up and allow the songs to dictate where they want to go."

I'm a bit disappointed with their album. Obviously, I was expecting so much from them. Also, the fillers are very unnecessary, with the exception of the title track. Overall, solid rock album and the best rock album of 2011. 8/10
Recommended Tracks:
1. Paradise
2. Charlie Brown
3. Hurts Like Heaven
4. Princess of China
5. Don't Let It Break Your Heart

UK Midweek Chart update: Coldplay sales hit 95k already
12:10 | Tuesday October 25, 2011
By Paul Williams
Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto is challenging Adele’s 21 to become the fastest-selling album in the UK this year after opening with more than 95,000 sales.
The Parlophone act are certainties to debut at number one this coming Sunday with what will be their fifth chart-topping album out of five releases. They begin the week by outselling nearest rival Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds by nearly four copies to one, according to the Official Charts Company.
In a week in which the fate of EMI’s future ownership could be determined, the UK major also has a very good chance of sitting at the top of the singles chart this coming Sunday with the Virgin-issued Read All About It by Professor Green featuring Emeli Sande the week’s biggest seller so far. Performed on ITV1’s X Factor results show last Sunday, the single has sold around 67,000 copies so far this week, around 14,000 more than fellow new release and its current closest challenger, the Syco-handled Earthquake by Labrinth featuring Tinie Tempah.
Back on the albums chart and, having debuted at one last Sunday, the Sour Mash-issued Gallagher album is the week-to-date’s second-biggest artist album and is around 10,000 sales ahead of Reprise/Warner Bros act Michael Buble’s brand new album Christmas. Buble is joined among the top five sellers by RCA artist Kelly Clarkson whose Stronger is showing up as a new entry at four, while Elektra/Atlantic Bruno Mars who, like Clarkson, performed on last Sunday’s X Factor show, climbs 9-5 with Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Sales of Mars’ album are up 158% on the week, while the track he performed, Runaway Baby, is presently a new entry at 20 on the singles countdown.
As Coldplay’s new album looks to challenge its opening-week sales of 208,090, achieved in January, XL act Adele’s album 21 faces the prospect of dropping out of the top five for the first time since its release. Placed fourth last Sunday, it is currently the ninth biggest artist seller of the new chart week.
Ahead of Adele, Tom Waits is aiming to achieve only his second UK Top 10 album – the first, Mule Variations, reached number nine in May 1999 – with the newly-released Anti release Bad As Me the week so far’s sixth top seller.
Former Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes’ new solo album Secret Codes And Battleships – released on his Powdered Sugar label – is new at 11, while Sony’s re-issue of Paul Simon’s Grammy-winning Graceland crops up in 14th position. Also currently showing up as new entries among the Top 20 positions are albums from Roadrunner’s Machine Head (16th place) and Epic/Syco’s Ronan Parke (19th), while in 21st and 22nd positions respectively are new albums from Demon’s The Soldiers and Because/Ed Banger’s Justice.
On the singles chart Def Jam/Mercury’s single We Found Love by Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris, which spent a third week at the top last Sunday, is now in third place. Kelly Clarkson is matching her album’s position this week on singles with Mr Know It All moving 6-4, while Peacefrog’s Charlene Soraia single Wherever You Will Go drops 3-5.
Island act Rizzle Kicks appear poised to score a second Top 10 hit in their own right (they also topped the chart with Olly Murs) with When I Was A Youngster a new entry at seven.
As they head to the top of the artist albums chart, Coldplay will also return to the singles chart this week. Paradise is new at 12 in the chart week so far, one position ahead of fellow new release, the Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen single You Make Me Feel by Cobra Starship featuring Sabi.
