You all set up ridiculously high expectations for PRISM & didn't learn from 3 years ago. Katy debuted at the height of the rise of the digital era & like other artists that debuted during this time, her album buying fanbase in the initial weeks isn't as strong as artists that debuted before this time. Katy, Rihanna, Miley, etc (in terms of looking at pop girls that rose during this time, Gaga being an exception because she's a phenomenon that built up an incredibly devoted fanbase that purchases in masses). These numbers are excellent, and you all can be disappointed while Capitol & Katy throw a party for the huge rise from TD.
Artists like Katy are more focused on longevity & overall impact throughout an era, 1st week is just the beginning.

And lemme post this:
This album debuted around the same #s & had incredible longevity due to her broad appeal & diverse airplay/exposure (AC, pop, rock, etc). Katy will probably not have quite the longevity (because P!nk is more established & TTAL has some appeals PRISM doesn't), but she appeals to multiple formats & types of listeners.
So not saying TTAL chart-run = PRISM chartrun, but use this to LEARN.

I think it was a good idea to release singles like Roar and Unconditionally now because these sales tell me that the GP thinks of Katy as more of a singles artist. I hope with songs like Unconditionally and Roar blowing up people will look at her as a more serious artist and will support her more album wise. But an improvement is an improvement.

MusicTalker - Rihanna and Katy don't have big first weeks because they aren't artists people truly care for. They are just radio fillers / singles artists. Not to the extent that Pitbull and Flo Rida are but they simply aren't on the top tier A-list level that other pop girls have been on (Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Britney, Bey, Gaga, Taylor S).
& it has NOTHING to do with rising in the digital era, lol. People have this huge misconception that first week sales used to be bigger and that they've declined along with the industry, which is all a huge lie. First week sales are bigger than ever these days and they only started becoming a "thing" in the late 90s. The first week sales record till like 1998 for females was 300k by Janet, lmao. Look at the highest first week sales lists and they're almost ALL after 2000. In our society right now, everything is instant, we need to have it all immediately. Drake, Taylor, One Direction, Bieber, Gaga, etc all rose in the digital era and they can all sell because they're all superstars. These pop girls are not, and that's why it's funny to see the payola put behind them. The labels need to spend all this money on artists who actually matter.

You guys do too much. It's going to debut at #1 with approx ~100k more than her last album debuted with. By what measure is that not amazing?

No one is disputing that PRISM won't do well in the long run.
It's her first week sales that are disastrous when you consider the promotion/tv ads/ radio deals she's had. P!nk didn't have 1/10th the promo Katy has had, so her first week numbers aren't out of the norm. Not to mention that Katy's own label predicted 400k.
For example, just yesterday on KISS.FM (and other ClearChannel stations across America):
and yet she can't crack 300k ? Explain please.

And probably 3rd week because they are only for the deluxe version.

I'm hoping she can still get 300k. I mean there hasn't been a single female other than her and miley to debut with 200k+

These numbers are a bit underwhelming when we take everything into consideration; her mammoth-sized promotional campaign and her radio domination 24/7. She should be easily be doing 400k+
Not bad for Fifth Harmony.

That's why Rihanna sells 3 million with 2 fully promoted singles and if she gives it a try she sells 6 to 9 million.
