this is type of challenge totally clashes with my writing style
plus the explaining something personal and narrowing it down like that is gonna make talking about it even harder
sigh here i go...
I wish I could write a 1000 words about it but try to understand that there are still 23 albums in and if we all wrote what we wanted, it'd be so hard to vote and judge...
oh my god i cant literally shorten it to just 200 words while explaining,
- how/why i relate to this song
- how/why this song relates to that.
- how i relate to the album.
its not even close. did everyone else really cover those three?
EDIT: the word limit seriously needs to be made volatile according to the themes of the rounds. some themes just require more words. Last round dint require all 200 words but this one requires more.
EDIT: i forgot.. do quoted lyrics count towards that 200?

I ALWAYS go overboard with my explanations, but I totally managed the 200 words limit. I think I have 190, including LONG quoted lyrics. The 3rd part (how you relate to the album) is not necessary. I think Anna meant that she wants us to explain how we relate to the song that we submit so that, through this song, she can see what the album means to us. So either omit that part or make it extremely short and you'll be fine

As long as you don't quote the entire song, it's ok!

I always count them. I'm always struggling not to cross the limit, but I've never actually considered not counting "the" and "a"

I don't think anyone will be mad if you have 210 words. Now don't go all 230s or 250s.

I understand your issue, but I would count quotations, unfortunately. If you write 200 of your own words + include citations of say 50 words, it would be a big block of text of 250 words. That's why we have the word limit in the first place, to not go overboard and have a fair amount of text for each entry. I hope you manage to narrow it down.
But that's arguable - other judges may exclude it in their count.

okay so its ~210 words now including the prepositions, articles and Lyric quotes but i definitely struggled.
i think my technique of writing was wrong this time. i started by writing everything that came to my mind and figured i would edit it to 200 words later and THAT got hard.
We had to do this for my AP English class last year. We had to write editorials which had to be under like 250 words and everything from quotations to articles counted. It really is a struggle.
Last round dint require all 200 words but this one requires more.
