Coming for your wigs, my debut era was lackluster in the last base

Not me scraping a Top 10 after managing an Applause-level chart in the last base.

EDIT: 5600th post. Meaningless milestone celebrations!

Oh, okay, I see what you mean. They did do the morning show, which is more of an older demographic. I'd like a late night show, but that demographic is more non-jazzy so I don't know if it would work. It might in the UK, though.

To be honest, I don't really understand what their strategy is for C2C. I mean, some of the promo has been random, to say the least
Them promoting it during the US Open was good but the H&M partnership Oh well, hopefully H&M will spin their songs during the holidays. I hope C2C has enough longevity to sell through the holidays as well.
|
None of it's been random. Everything has been tailored to a specific demographic for Gaga and Tony. The H&M deal is nothing more than worldwide advertising. Their holiday campaign is their biggest of the year so having Gaga and Tony billboards all around the world is great for general promo. And considering jazz and holiday music go hand-in-hand, it's a perfect promo slot.

The campaign has been done so well. I won't even be upset if it does bad, they've pulled out all the stops necessary for a jazz album and more. I might take a break from ATRL when it comes out. No shade but you guys kinda ruin new music.

Not to mention that Gaga managed to compact an entire cinematic event from start to finish in a five minute video. Paparazzi and Telephone could never. Bad Romance didn't need an extra five minutes to help you understand the plot and backstory.

Bad Romance is everything a music video needs to be. It's perfection.
However, Paparazzi is a close second. And Telephone is third.
The BTW videos are all terrible, imo, but Applause and G.U.Y. would probably be 4th and 5th. She definitely redeemed herself MV-wise this era.

When I look back on my life
It's not that I don't want to see things exactly as they happened
It's just that I prefer to remember them in an artistic way
And truthfully the lie of it all is much more honest because
I invented it
Clinical psychology tells us arguably that trauma is the ultimate killer
Memories are not recycled like atoms and particles in quantum physics
They can be lost forever
It's sort of like my past is an unfinished painting
And as the artist of that painting
I must fill in all the ugly holes
And make it beautiful again
It's not that I've been dishonest
It's just that I loathe reality
For example, those nurses
They're wearing next season Calvin Klein
And so am I
And the shoes
Custom Giuseppe Zanotti
I tipped their gauze caps to the side like Parisian berets
Because I think it's romantic
And I also believe that mint will be very big in fashion next Spring
Check out this nurse on the right
She's got a great ass
Bam
The truth is
Back then at the clinic
They only wore those funny hats to keep the blood out of their hair
And that girl on the left
She ordered gummy bears and a knife a couple of hours ago
They only gave her the gummy bears
I'd wished they'd only given me the gummy bears
Not you shading the greatest poetry of our generation.
(I wrote this jokingly, but reading it back (in Gaga's MTN voice ofc) it's very well written, albeit long-winded)

Judas and BTW were good. BTW could have been great, but the intro and the body didn't blend well. The whole "protecting good with evil" thing was kinda forgotten throughout the rest of the video.

She needs a good creative director/partner tbh, someone who can make her musical and visual ideas work in a pop-friendly way. Gaga could go and perform her single on every talk show/award show on the planet, and have the words "BUY LADY GAGA'S NEW SINGLE" plastered on trains and buses and billboards and commercials and full page ads in every printed media possible, but it won't work if she's releasing something like "Swine" and walking around looking like she did at Zedd's SXSW show.
Gaga's public image was actually great during the early "Applause" era. "Applause" had great call-out scores and was a streaming hit, "YAAASS GAGA YOU LOOK SO GOOD" was becoming a meme, her style was amazing, straights were finding her hot again (so many men found her hot after the VMA performance), teenage girls and young women were finding her cool again after Born This Way scared them away . Then it started getting off-course when she started wearing any random wig with any random style from in September, but her status was still good.
But then her image got really horrible when she started doing the bleach-fried "Venus" look, and the reports of ARTPOP being a flop + her label losing $25 million gained wind. The most logical thing would've been to immediately combat the rumors, but she was depressed + she probably didn't want to deal with Troy's s**t (this was around the time she fired him), so she just let the punches roll in. and then the "Do What U Want" video delays only added insult to injury.

I won't even discuss how badly derailed the ARTPOP era became by October, but you're absolutely right: she needs a creative partner. I mean, she fired Dada, she fired Boomkack, and she fired the last real partner she had, Troy. Now who does she have? I honestly don't know. Is she doing all the creative stuff herself? Does she have anyone in the Haus helping to create her images?

Judas is decent, I agree. Probably the best of the era. Y&I is also okay but wayyyy too many ideas going on (I like most of the imagery and the colors, though). TEOG is awful, BTW is awful, MTN is awful.
Poker Face and Just Dance are good but basic.
