White girls weren't the only ones allowed to audition. Lyndsy Fonseca was one of the final contenders for Katniss and she's Portuguese (and she fits a pretty good physical description of Katniss). Kaya Scodelario was also a final contender and she's part Brazilian.
At the end of the day, Jennifer got the part because she can play Katniss well. If you've read any of the articles that have come out lately, you know that Gary Ross admitted to being "floored" by her incredible portrayal.
Oscar nominated or not, she can act. I don't understand how anyone can see any of the trailers or TV spots and not see that.
I know this is your opinion. I fully respect it. (I don't mean to come off as bitchy. If I do, then I'm terrible sorry!! D; ) I just disagree with the fact that looks are more important than talent and portrayal in a book to screen adaption.
