agree with The Greatest. They're so traditional yet they have interesting elements but not to the point where its PBJR&B or whatever.
Black Beatles
Pick Up The Phone is nice.
Groovy Tony, Don't Touch My Hair & I Bet On Losing Dogs - great picks
Surprised to see 1990x, yes!
30. KING - The Greatest
29. Rae Sremmurd ft Gucci Mane - Black Beatles
28. Young Thug & Travis Scott ft Quavo - Pick Up The Phone
27. Solange ft Sampha - Don't Touch My Hair
26. Mitski - I Bet On Losing Dogs
23. Maxwell - 1990x
21. ScHoolboy Q ft Jadakiss - Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane
The best set yet, whew. Can't wait for the top 20, its going to be so good.
I never would've thought during the beginning of the year that Alicia Keys would end up in this position, yet here we are. She got rid of the Girl On Fire vocals and instead went with a smooth lower register that makes her sound a bit more... listenable. Anyway In Common was a shocker at first listen cuz I didn't expect to like it that much. The fact that it still hasn't gotten old for me yet is telling. I would like to say the trendy production helped as well to make it sound more current. I wish it didn't flop and was actually included on her album but fine, it'll get more plays from me than anything else on that.
19. Future ft The Weeknd - Low Life
Technically this was "released" during the last week of last December but not officially a single until March so this was my only exception.I view this song as one of the last from future before he burned out (admit it, this wasn't his year). I think I prefer Abel here over Future too, but nontheless i'm always playing this whenever i'm out. It's been everywhere for me too so its gotten the shine it deserved.
18. The 1975 - Somebody Else
As someone who isn't a fan of The 1975, I have to give it to them for this. Somebody Else is a phenomenal synth pop song about having your past significant other sharing themselves with another person. The chorus is heavy hitting and depending on experiences, the song as a whole can hit home. It's something you can either grieve over or to.
17. Preoccupations - Anxiety
Anxiety is one of the eeriest songs of the year and completely nails its ominous theme. Lyrically it references the effects from having constant nervousness over its slowly paced dark sound. Matt Flegel's voice was best suited for this type of song.
16. Danny Brown - Tell Me What I Don't Know
It took a bit to get into Danny Brown, especially because of his styles of rapping and story telling through his different vocal egos. I understand that Danny isn't for everyone due to his voice at times, but what I have noticed is some of his best songs like this one (and Pac Blood for an earlier example) is when he "raps normally". Not sure if i'm in the minority on that. What Tell Me What I Don't Know has over other songs from Atrocity Exhibition such as "really doe" is simply replay value. The drone production is captivating, song is short enough, lyrically competent, it's part of what i'm looking more of from Danny.
15. A.K. Paul - Landcruisin'
Since Jai Paul refuses to release anything, A.K has provided a satisfactory temporary substitute through Landcruisin'. The Paul Institute to me is still a mystery ever since it's been revealed. Landcruisin is very atmospheric, through the motorcycle sounds and vroom effects. Style & substance is offered here.
14. Bon Iver - 29 #Strafford APTS
I think Bon Iver is a polarizing group. Hate them or love them, i'm on the latter side, even when these titles were a bit jarring at first. Strafford offers a nice balance of the old acoustic Folk style (For Emma) blended with the vocoder instrumental as Justin's vocal tool to add layers in. It also combines Sean Carey's vocal contribution as well. The entire track just has an uplifting nature to it.
13. Beyoncé ft Jack White - Don't Hurt Yourself
*stream on Tidal*
I did not expect this from her but the fact that she collaborated with Legend Jack White and delivered an aggressive rock performance is what make this tracks stands out from the rest on Lemonade. She pulls off plenty of emotion here effectively and can be convincing that she's truly over it and gives out the final warnings.
12. Deakin - Just Am
My early SOTY when it first came out. I think this is my favorite AnCo-related track and it blows anything from Painting With & Centipede Hz out the water. It's so easy for me to get lost within its psychedelic atmosphere.
11. Metallica - Spit Out The Bone
Metallica's comeback this year was pretty special in a commercial way. Quality wise their album doesn't really compare to any of their essentials. Some tracks were great, others were duds. However, they truly saved the best for last with Spit Out The Bone. It's Reminiscent in a way of their early thrash days and among their heaviest tracks in a long while.

Tell Me What I Don't Know is an... interesting choice. But yes @ 29 #Strafford APTS, Just Am and Landcruisin I likeAnxiety the most from Preoccupations' album, cause it sounds like it could easily fit Viet Cong, which I absolutely love. I pretty much agree with everything you said about Somebody Else and The 1975 in general.
