Was it really a surprise tho? Keeps Gettin' Better was a lead single only 2 years after B2B and spent 1 week in the top 10 and peaked at #11 on Top 40 (with a video and VMA's performance). I'd say that was kinda telling of what was to come
Well, Born This Way was frontloaded so Applause coming and doing as average as it did was logical but AbdulGa was dragged anyway. I also remember Myth X fans were calling Circus 'Flopcus' and that her era will demolish it so she got dragged hard when she came and bombed. The original Katy vs. Gaga.
There's nothing Gaga can do really. It's not about the songs, her whole career from the day Just Dance and Poker Face smashed relied on her persona and gimmicks. Everything after that that smashed was because of her, because of Gaga, now she's just a relic of the electro pop dance era. She's seen as something that's simply not current and trendy among the current generation. She hasn't had a huge global non-frontloaded hit since 2011. So she should just continue doing what she is now, release the video, perform the song and then drop the album so at least her fans get what they want.

Madonna and Bowie can be anything they want on an album, that's why they're known for re-invention. Lady Gaga and Manson really can't re-invent their character, it's the reason why she runs the risk of limiting themselves to a niche role in music.

True. She is no different than LMFAO or Psy. Had she been a true visionary she would have left the dance craze in 2011 like Rihanna did but no she had to make generic EDM in 2013 when no one cared anymore

Like after TFM era you come back with that and think it's actually worthy of being a lead single for the most expected pop album this decade at that point it was obvious to me then she doesn't have taste and ear for hits and it was all a lie built by her team

Whenever an album would leak and you'd download it, put it on iTunes and the second it played Bionic would come blaring on It was funny every time
Bionic was the first major flop release by a pop girl since Glitter, but Mimi rebounded with TEOM so technically Legend X pioneered flop culture. No one made a big deal about albums flopping until Legend X did it and now all of these girls are doing it. A TRENDSETTER

The biggest stars are those who know their strengths and their weaknesses. Céline Dion has never written or produced a song in her life but with the voice she has it doesn't matter.
Gaga is obviously talenteless in terms of writing or producing with no ear whatsoever when it comes to telling what will be a hit, but she has a pretty great voice when she uses it well, and she should have known and accepted her weaknesses instead of pretending to be a real artist by doing things out of her reach.

I don't even think Gaga is talentless in terms of writing (maybe producing) and I think she even has great artistic instincts. It's just that her ego is tremendous. She took what should be a team effort and tried to do it 100% her own way.
But why re-invent the wheel when all you have to do is slightly modify it?
