Honestly it's not a huge mess yet, the pound falling isn't exactly a crisis in itself, at least for now. I'm sure that people are currently convening behind the scenes and we'll get more info next week. Brexit was unexpected but they must have drawn up some contingency plans.

Unfortunately, that's the way democracy works. Just look at the 2015 General Election results. 63.2% of voters didn't want the Tories.

Well so far they all seem reluctantly resigned to it. Andrew Marr/Sunday Politics are on tomorrow - I'm not sure who the guests are but I think we'll probably have a better idea. Sunday Politics is an hour longer than usual so they better not pad this out with crap and no real info.

Public trust and opinion towards the Government is going to be extremely low if the democratic vote is not implemented. That combined with the EU's hostility towards us makes remaining a lose-lose situation imo.

The Government really do need prioritise working on fixing this broken nation that are split in half. I'm going to contradict myself now but most leave voters probably haven't got any trust with the government so they should follow through with Brexit but they need to think of a deal with will please the remain voters as there was so many of them

Yeah, I don't think they could really get away with a second referendum or ignoring the vote unless there's a material change greater than currency exchange rates, like knowing the deal we're gonna get. I think Brexit is 95% likely.

Ugh I really hope May doesn't become PM. She's the primary reason my journey towards citizenship is becoming more and more hard. I live in fear as to what will happen to me if she gets even more of a platform. I'll probably be sent back packing to the racist and homophobic country that literally wants to behead me for existing.

well cameron said all along it would happen as soon as the vote came in, now it won't be triggered until october at the earliest if it does get triggered. who knows what things will be like in october that can affect whether the government formally tells the EU we're leaving and sets the ball rolling

if it turns out to be a logical thing to do economically, with the scotland/Northern ireland situation etc, and with her legacy then remembering her as someone who sided with younger voters who would be affected in the long term, it might not be so bad for her overall

Tbh this is part of the issue, thanks to First Past the Post people are used to their vote 'not mattering' and likely treated this referendum similarly.

He was talking as though he were still going to be the PM (he clearly wasn't going to be so), and there would obviously be a leadership challenge so it was widely expected that negotiations wouldn't begin immediately. Next week informal negotiations will begin, though, in essentially the same mechanism as Article 50.

The mantra 'yes means yes/no means no' has basically resigned the European leaders into accepting it. The Remain camp backed themselves into a corner on that one. The Leave camp did it too, but they're seen as more 'of the people' so they can get away with it easier.

Agreed, it's not ideal but we have to face the facts and that isn't the UK being a member of the EU. Hopefully the October date set for the new PM to be chosen is set earlier, so Article 50 can finally be triggered

leave are kind of at a disadvantage now after it came out that the NHS thing was a lie that swayed a lot of people

There'd need to be a leadership contest and honestly October is optimistic. I'd say November is more likely, but as I said informal negotiations are starting next week.

Both sides were very ill-prepared, there aren't even enough trained negotiators at this point.

Parliament can do what it likes and there is a significant number of the elected party that wanted to remain so it's not impossible.

That would be political suicide. Parliament answers to the public eventually and we have long memories. The unions tried it pre-Thatcher and we didn't return a Labour majority for years and years after, and that was after a dramatic shift to the centre.
