I think you have never heard about "sample" we learn that in maths, you know, studying a small percentage of the population to study the other that's left because there are no possibilities to know the taste of 6 billion people

Also, it seems that music/sexuality labeling is more predominant now. My uncle is much much older and is straight as an arrow, but enjoys stuff from Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, and Aretha. Is it just with pop singers?
|
Yeah it's very normal for straight black guys to enjoy R&B females, especially the older ones. They even like Beyonce, Monica, Jazmine Sullivan, etc.
Straight men not listening to females is more of a white pop thing I think. They even listen to country like T-Swizzle and Underwood.

As for the gays perfering females, females singers are more accepting of their gay stanbases than male singers are.
|
Yes I think you're right. I've never thought about it before. I think when some male singers openly embrassed their gay fanbases, they are automaticaly labelled gay themselves. It mostly happens in the black community sadly.

No not at all, it's just that some hetero guys are ashamed to like these kind of artists, that's just a complex.

yes, especially artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna that sing so much about female empowering songs and boys and all that.
Kesha and Gaga, they have some club jams that everyone seems to enjoy because of the beats. at least that's what happens here
|
I don't know about that, because Alicia keys also has empowering songs, so does Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott. I think the problem is the over sexual image. And Gaga is definately the pop star with the biggest gay fanbase.

Yeah, people like GaGa, Madonna, Cher and Britney Spears are gay icons. Their music is extremely feminine, so I can see why people would figure that a lot of their fans are gays and maybe females. Actually, I think they have more gay fans than females. Females tend to drool over male artists a lot.

Am I the only one who thinks that a guy who mostly listens to male artists or acts is more likely to be gay?

of course that has to be a tiny percentage, but I don't see them going to the concerts and being a fan, enjoying some songs yes
|
Don't know about the others but Beyoncé got a big(not huge) straight fanbase, just go on Ukmix and some others forums. I think gaga do aswell, the problem is that gaga tends to loose them because she seems to care only for gays, but at the beginning of her carreer, she had a lot of straight fans.

Exactly, but the black singers that were 1st labelled as RnB before turning totally pop have a lot of straight fans. Like Janet, Beyoncé, Alicia, Mary and so on. I think out of them all, Alicia is the one with the biggest straight fanbase.

Unless they're critically acclaimed, yes. It's not uncommon to find straight guys who will admit they listen to/like/love Beyonce or Gaga, because they have a certain cache - they are considered cool. And more importantly, credible. Rihanna's a trickier position - all sorts of people listen to her, but with an ironic distance - because she has so many negative qualities. But she's in too.
The others? Forget about. (Well maybe Perry, but she's decidedly anti-cosmopolitan, so I always forget her.)

True, but like can you really picture straight males stanning or just fanning for Usher, JT or Chris when most of their music is dedicated to the ladies and they all get naked at their concerts? Plus, I know a lot of straight people who refuse to listen to those artists openly. These music/sexual labels are confusing at time. There are people who listen to everyone from Muse to Beyonce to Jill Scott to Justin Timberlake to Demi Lovato. How would you classify someone with such diverse taste?

After that stunt he pulled at the AMAs, I doubt he has many, if any.
