She started out selling more than him and have more hype but drake is an artist and has changed the game and brought something different to the hip hop community. He moved the needle forward.
At one point the album he put out in 09/10 and her debut album was like this

Overtime he's built his brand on a solid foundation and not on gimmicks, stunts, smoke and mirrors and the shiny ball syndrome for the easily exciteable...he did what i said above and even his older albums have great catalog sales.
Isn't the album he put out in 2009/10 at 1.8M now
and he continues to be the supreme.
NIcki would love his actual sales and she got it round 1 but since then it's just been going downhill and relying on a list urban artist to help her get more spins/streams only to still result in low sales.
It could have gone different but she just took a page from gaga and xtina and reinvent herself way too strong and lost core audiences within each reinvention.
Janet, Madonna, MJ/Prince, Britney, Beyonce, Rihanna reinvented themselves but you still have an idea of who they are...
