Listen to "Partition"
The lowdown: Any regular observer of ATRL rates can tell you there’s a natural bias toward singles that boosts their chances and often guarantees they win. Perhaps it’s a matter of familiarity or laziness by voters; perhaps these songs are just better, and that’s why they were chosen as singles in the first place. Either way, it takes something rather special to cut through the noise of established hits and earn an underdog victory, especially in a battle of such epic proportions as this one. In the case of “Partition,” it can only be that tale of backseat limo fellatio, so unexpected and explicit it’s a little shocking—and titillating—even for the sex-drenched landscape of modern pop music. This slinky, snapping, French-quoting auto-erotic fantasy has been so enthusiastically received it’s now getting a promotional push of its own as the third release from
Beyoncé. While it remains to be seen how radio and mainstream audiences take to the song, we here at ATRL can proudly say we were ahead of the horny curve.
ATRL says...: Nothing but raves. "It’s pure filth,"
bluth wrote, "but good filth. Amazing filth."
madonnas said Beyoncé needs to rap more, "because this is amazing. It’s dark, sexual and also the sung parts have a hint of needing. Ugh, this song really has so many emotions without sounding a MESS like 'We Can’t Stop.'"
lovesong thought it was "sexy" and "not quite a ten, but still amazing."
Stevie called it "ghetto fabulous, purely raunchy (if that makes sense), built for a sensual night at the club, and yet it's still not even one of the best on
Beyoncé."
AriNikoBradshaw was getting his LIFE, "from the beat to the flawless vocals to the sexy lyrics."
Best bit: "He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown"
