The most heart-warming treasure of GIFs on ATRL is learning to throw shade with them.
The first that come to my mind (or the most iconic, persay) are the following:
"Mariah/I Don't Know Her": http://dramadaily.net/forum/images/smilies/QcjxJ.gif
"Britney on ET": http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4...io2_r4_250.gif
Though overused, they never age - this is easily the highlight of GIFs for me.
I took this as a challenge: find one just as good, but only... without a celeb
The ending result is one that can be perfectly attached to many shade opportunities.
One might say it catalyzes a sharp 'stop' to the doings of haters and company
This multi-purpose not only provides a good response to ignorant basics, but
to pop-culture basics. Let's face it, some people just really need to STOP
Here are some in-the-action examples of opportune times to use this GIF:
" Discussion: Lady Gaga is male, a part of the illuminati, and praises Lucifer"
" Poll: Who is the new ICONIC queen of pop???"
" Music News: Nicki to release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up: Martha's Madness: Va Va Voom Version, featuring 8 new songs produced by Dr. Luke and Cirkut"
" Music News: Katy to release 90th single off of 1998 album, Teenage Dream"
It could even work in the game section, i.e. Musical Chairs! Need to quickly end a round?
Most simply and traditionally, it can be used in an argument. Delusional stan? Rude lessor? Solution:
There are also symbolic deeper meanings within the GIF that require deep thought.
Don't worry, I've done all the thinking and would love to share the secrets.
I, myself, like to pretend the recipient of the GIF is the news reporter herself.
The gusts in the background could be a continuation of this iconic GIF:
http://cdn.littlemonsters.com/4fc06d...014233_700.gif
This opens up yet another door. In essence, 'whoever think they iconic can STOP'.
The mic shown in the GIF could easily be used as secret shade
If I knew how, I'd even add a "Your Fave" in place of "Holly Ellenbogen".
Maybe even a photo-shopped head of (insert star here) [playing it safe ].
This shows the ability for the GIF to branch into its' own viral, wait for it, MEME.
Let me guess what you're thinking about my hypothesis:
This GIF would easily add the the language of GIFs, especially in ATRL.
Plus, it's a refreshing way to enable everyone, regardless of stanbase, to shade

One might ask? Why use this particular gif?
Well, it is extremely versatile and can be used successfully in almost any ATRL situation
For example:
1.After dragging someone for filth.... *Sip Tea c\_/*
2.While watching two members drag each other.... *Sip Tea c\_/*
3.First encountering an amazing song.... *Sip Tea c\_/*
4.While waiting on something.... *Sip Tea c\_/*
5.When a member you dislike gets the ticket to banland.... *Sip Tea c\_/*
6.When something you predicted comes to pass.... *Sip Tea c\_/*
7.Watching a member have a meltdown... *Sip Tea c\_/*
8.Your fav slays the charts, selling 3 million in the first week.... *Sip Tea c\_/*
etc. etc.
Now watch the Queen sip her True Tea™ once more.

When participating in this competition thus far, I have noticed a number of acts of shade from various members, even me. So for all of these epidemic battles in the house, lead me to use this gif:
The show Cougar Town, originally on ABC now on TBS, revolves around the lives of middle aged people, but yet remains just as funny when watching the actual show. This gif in particular has the character Andy Torres, a neighbor of the main character, who can sometimes on the show be a bit of a “try hard” to be a certain characteristic. This gif in particular, when Andy tries to dramatically walk off mad, and then fails and gets it returned in his face. So here are some reasons below who this can be successful here on atrl:
1.One off gifs have its own market of use. This gif shows enough of use from attackers, especially if they are wrong for some reason, where they can put it when they are wrong. Usually ATRL members need to have similar one off gifs like this to smack some gurls into place.
2.When people on this site use a certain amount of shade, sometimes it works and there is no opportunity for one to push shade back. Usually when shade is thrown at one, You can get out of shade really easily and a gif like this can tell someone “you tried”
With this GIF I will provide direct examples of this can be used:
Example 1: When stan uses largely overinflated recipets about pop star’s sales in the US:
Quote:
She indeed has been consistent enough even off the billboard 200 to sell 1 million albums
|
Last week on yahoo music in the blog update, it was officially listed at 800,000. You probably made that number up
Example 2: Backtracking Bandwagoners:
Pop Star that couldn’t get big until a year later
Gurl…

Example 3:
Trolling members
Quote:
Hit Recording Artist Keri Hilson
|
Did you make an error in the title? Hit?
then to be quoted back
Quote:
Did you make an error in the title? Hit?
|
Oh and when has any of your fav (ex.Rebecca Ferguson) ever had a hit compared to Keri #YouTried #StayMad
Even if this can be used in obsessed cases, obseesed cases are still being used repeatedly and not just once.

Not only is it really funny and attention grabbing, but there are many ways for it to be used.
Example: "Here's a visual representation of Keri Hilson's career and Christina's "Bionic" era."
That covers both Shade and Flopping.
You could also look at it more literally.
"Call Me Maybe and Gangnam Style were played back to back on the radio today. I am just 500% done with everything."
Finally, it could be used when you find out something.
"No new Adele for a few more years?!"
Disclaimer: I actually liked the Bionic era even though it was a flop.

I also think its more personal.
I actually wanted to use
or
but ended up with this one.

The gif is probably more of a "Troll-Shade" gif. It doesnt fit too much with long texts or giving receipts and explanations whilst shading.

Annoyed? We've got a gif for that. Laughing out loud? We've got a gif for that. Popping your booty? You better believe we've got a (couple of) gif(s) for that.
But what about that moment?
You know the one... You find a post or an ATRL user that is, in every sense of the word, exhausting. I'm not talking simply "yawn at the screen" exhausting. I'm talking "log off your computer-walk far, far away from it-flop directly onto your face and lay there undisturbed for hours because the absolute banality of a completely inane and over-done post has effectively sucked your will to go on any further" exhausted. Phew.
For those moments, I present you with this...

Let's see it in action...

Hey guys, I hate to say it, but ATRL is just not what it used to be. Have you noticed? I miss how things used to be here when I first signed up. Also, I think the rules are way too tight. We should probably have a thread where we can discuss what the reporting rules should be. I'm sure the mods would be ok with that, right? It's not like anybody has ever suggested it before. Anyway, I just hope things can go back to how they were in the good old days. Who agrees???

But like, that number 5 peak is pretty good right??? I already know the answer is a yes, but I wanna hear from you...IS IT ICONIC?!?!?

In that time it was used in a local cable commercial for lawn care, appeared briefly on Billboard's Bubbling Under the Bubbling Under chart, and obviously inspired every single song that's on the radio today. I already know the answer (basically that my fave is basically on level with Elvis Presley and The Beatles after this song performed so well), but I wanna hear it from you all...IS IT ICONIC?!?!?

It can also be used in any variation of the following Poll threads:

Well when literally every other contestant included some form of explanation to accompany their GIF, that's when you should know that something's off with your entry.
Thanks for the free GIF promo, by the way!

How should I have known that before I submitted it?
It didn't say we needed it, I didn't think it was necessary, I didn't include it.

I know that it's a popular gif. I asked Andre to make it months ago and it picked up. I guess some of you wouldn't understand what impact is.
Moment of shading.
