Based on the numbers the show has been getting I think it is in serious danger. I think Friday nights are a poor choice to air the show. Also it would have been better paired up with Ringer on another night. But I don't work for the CW lol Its outlook doesn't look too promising
As a whole the whole network is in a lot of trouble. The shows are all underperforming so its going to come down to money compared to the ratings in the end

The problem is people aren't comprehending how to analyze ratings properly. Overall, people are caught up by judging a show's success by viewership, which is totally irrelevant to TV networks. That's only for PR purposes, to make networks look good. 18-49 demo rating is what keeps a show from getting canceled. For instance, CW aims for women viewership. Nielsen Media Research also provides statistics on specific demographics as advertising rates are influenced by such factors as age, gender, race, economic class, and area. Younger viewers are considered more attractive for many products. Nikita unfortunately averages .5/.6 18-49 adult rating, which is terrible. Another example would be NBC Harry's Law, which does good in total viewership, but does poorly in the adult rating. Another thing is people aren't understading how Nielsen works. You can't just turn on a TV thinking your viewership matters. Some people think by turning each TV on in their household that ratings will increase, it doesn't work that way. You gotta have a Nielsen box for your viewership to count. Therefore, Nikita is on the verge of cancellation. The show doesn't attract adults, women, or the youth. In conclusion, millions of people are watching TV, but their viewership isn't counted because of Nielsen.

The thing with the CW is yes in the past they've focused solely on the young female demo but with Pedowitz as the new head, they are already showing some signs of moving slightly away from only this demo. Demo is a very important part but viewership is still a determining factor albeit less important. And this is the CW. most of their shows are averaging lower than 1 in the demo. Money will also be a very important factor. They network doesn't have the huge finances some of the bigger networks have. If a show is treading water but highly expensive it could get the boot over a show performing slightly poorer. Which isn't a very big margin in the CWs case lol.
Also Nielsen uses an outdated system which should be overhauled in today's age. But this is what the networks see and they go by what they have in front of them.

I definitely thought the network was in trouble, it's a shame. I don't really watch many TV shows but during the past 2-3 months I've started watching The Secret Circle, The Vampire Diaries and Nikita. I really don't understand how they all fair so badly to be honest. I know TVD is made out to be the success story of the CW, but 3 million viewers isn't great at all. I'd love another season of Nikita, and although the future doesn't look too bright for it, it could be doing worse. Like you mentioned, the network as a whole isn't doing great. I hope they put it into perspective.

How do you all feel about the status of 'Ringer'? Do you think it'll get a 2nd season, or will it be canceled after this season ends?

It deserves a third season. Nikita is mind-blowing and I still believe it hasn't lived up to its full potential yet. I'd be very disappointed if it would indeed be canceled.

It's actually not doing that bad as a whole, it just looses way too much of its lead in, which is the best performing show on the network. Retention is very important. I think they should have paired up TSC with Supernatural and Ringer with Nikita. These seem more compatible for the networks flow (imo).

I can't see how WB or CBS can be ok with this mediocre performance of the CW. If they don't turn it around soon I can see the network shutting down for good.

Its a more expensive show due to the talent they have cast for the show. If the viewership falls anymore I can't see them justifying keeping the show around. Ringer is definitely the networks biggest disappointment,

It doesn't get the attention from the network as much as it should. Friday night was destined to not do well.

The seperation between every show on the network is so small that honestly everything on the network could go either way. Age of the show, money, viewership and retention from its lead in combined will determine what will survive to next season.

The network cornered itself into a niche (young females) and can't pull itself away from it.
