@ Sats making very good argumentative cases.
I thought the general consensus in here was that Mariah would be lucky to make the list, now we're all expecting her to be placed higher?
And the Celine Dion mentions...
I do agree that Janet was snubbed. I guess RS still doesn't use her, sadly. I'm pretty sure she got enough noms from the 200 artists that worked on this...
This list also needs more females.

I didn't realize Justin was so high.
Can somebody remind me what is so great about him as a music artist? I thought his music was all Timbaland.

He's so overrated. I could understand if he was immensely talented, but he isn't. He's a decent dancer, and a decent singer.

If you're talking about his argument against Mariah's artistry, I wasn't swayed tbh.
What's interesting is how, as I had said before, 2 of her albums made the RS top 500 albums list. They were both in the 200s also, so add them up and that makes her a top 100 artist.

I can't believe Justin Timberlake made this list and Janet Jackson did not.
I mean. Really.

Good for you? I was talking about as a whole. I think he made good points.
Is that post-Superbowl?

You know she should be a little higher than 94.

I kind of see JT as the default. He's the only contemporary male pop artist doing it (besides the other Justin). I mean, who else?

janet jackson is amazing and some of her albums were groundbreaking
also they forgot : diana ross, patty smith, tori amos, kate bush, bjork, nancy sinatra, judy garland, debbie harry, martha reeves and the vandellas , and more

Probably not.
The was in reference to my illogical point about adding two top 300 albums together to make a top 100 artist.

But they don't NEED a contemporary male pop artist on it if he's just taking up space that could be filled by those more deserving--Janet is just one; as love100 said, Bjork, Nancy Sinatra and Deborah Harry (is Blondie on it?) have also done much more for music than Justin.
It's like, you don't have to represent every generation just for the sake of it. They need to be more stringent.

I guess if you put it that way...
But really, Justin hasn't done much in about three years, and I don't think *NSync's work is really respected that much by the industry, so IDK. I guess John Mayer If he's considered "contemporary") could have made it, or did he? *checks*

I guess there is no reason to watch this then now that the list is already out......I like JT but even I know he probably shouldn't have made the list in fact this list looks like it might be kinda.....wack...

I think Janet's trash following the Superbowl incident and the incident itself may have played a part. Justin getting in before Janet rubs me the wrong way like 2004...
A lot of stuff played into this list. Love Jay-Z, but him being mogul/money maker put him pretty high, too. While a great artist, I don't think he was as innovative as NWA, Public Enemy, Run-DMC, Outkast or even Eminem.
I'm glad Whitney made it, but she was crucified for not contributing to her music more, and she hasn't been really seen well in the public eye as of late. So, IDK. I will tune in to see because they will most likely say why these artists made the list.
