"Maria" was Blondie's comeback single. Their first in 17 years, despite being their sixth #1 in the UK, it only reached #82 in the US. It was written by Jimmy Destri, who was also the man responsible for "Atomic".
Oh, and (according to Wikipedia) the music video was directed by none other than the Alan Smithee! (For the uninformed among you, that's the name used when the actual director doesn't want their name associated with a project, or when they are removed from the project for whatever reason. Poor that.)
What the GP had to say:
We turn to Buyonce1814 once more! "Cute bop but once again it's forgettable. The chorus is the best part. The verses let it down in my opinion."
The third single released from Blondie's self-titled debut album, "Rip Her To Shreds" is the band at their most obnoxious. Apparently, the song is about "what gossip columns do to people's lives". Aside from getting to #81 in Australia (P!nk hew?), it didn't chart anywhere apparently.
What the GP had to say:
It's a good thing that Buyonce1814 had a lot to say. "So much ferocity and attitude. I love it. The music is better than the singing/lyrics, though. The music is fantastic!" Now, while I agree that the music is great, I think it's the lyrics and Deborah, her delivery that truly elevate the track. But each to their own!
