Tove Lo's, Calvin's and Shakira's efforts are my favourite of this set. I discovered Nick's self-titled just this week cause I had to make a review for it on ATRL Survivor and Ipm so glad I got that ask cause it's pretty unexpectedly good

I discovered Arca only this year, although I had heard his sounds via Twigs beforehand - upon discovery, listening to his two Stretch EPs, I was extremely pleased with what I heard and the kind of music he made. Naturally, I was very excited for this album and it's quite an album. In the same eclectic style as his other work, Xen is very easy to get lost in because it has so many layers, so many styles and so many things that make Arca the artist he is. It's the kind of music you find something new in with every listen. Can not wait for his work with Bjork this year.

Nicki Minaj • The Pinkprint

I've definitely slowed down on my Nicki Minaj fanning since the embarrassing excursion I had with PF:RR, but I'll always have a spot in my heart for her - especially when she delivers! She may not be the star some people want her to be, but Nicki is very powerful and talented and sees through a vision to the end, which is more than many pop, rap or hip-hop artists can say for themselves! There's a ton of personal, emotive material on this album that I don't think many people saw coming. She really created an excellent body of work - she's mastered the whole genre-bending thing, too.

This is the first Perfume Genius release that I've actively been involved in: the first time I paid attention to his music. Mike Hadreas, the mastermind behind it all, has seriously mastered the art of an aesthetic, a message through his music, and the quality of his music on his third LP (I low-key scrounged through his previous two after hearing this masterpiece). There's a little flavor of everything on this album which is exactly why it has drawn me back so much. Also, his gender and sexuality undertones are definitely the ****.

I definitely don't like or care about country music 95% of the time because it's pretty repetitive, uninteresting and problematic at times, as well. However, I have endless respect for artists that swoop in and release something like THIS in country music - going against the grain with tasteful roots and refreshing influences. This album makes me stand up for a genre barren of quality. It brings justice to pop country. I hope she gets mad recognition with whatever she does next. Also, I got my mother this album for Mother's Day and she loooves it.

This was the album Ariana needed to flower into a songbird popstar, and it's great! There are tons of impossibly catchy hooks, impressive vocal runs and refreshing pop beats. There are lots of hits on this record, it's like Rihanna's Loud era or a Mariah album. Definitely the pop album we needed this fall in this drought! Also showcased Ariana's vrsatile ability and she's growing up with class (but she's like 22 or something so... already pretty grown up I guess).

My good friend suggested this group to me (I've always been interested in left-field electronica male-female duos) and was incredibly surprised and amazed! Sylvan Esso made a very blippy, slick and polished record that almost sound like a post-folk collection of songs. I'm very interested in this group and I almost saw them in September... really should have. Continually beating myself up for that one.

Clearly this had to be a top album of ine this year. Tahliah Barnett is one of the most interesting new artists by a long shot, definitely doing a lot for the industry that's very refreshing and cool - expanding out of music, artistic and fashion compartments of hers are also incredible. Although I may prefer her two debut EPs to this full album, there's no doubt that LP1 is an incredible body of next-level, twitchy, sexy and gorgeous electronic soul music. Nobody is doing what FKA twigs is doing.
