In determining Taylor Swift's best single, one track undoubtedly stood out above all the other options. "Ronan" has something more behind it than any of her other singles. The song isn't a love story, a vengeful response, or a tale of broken romance. As I and many others know too well, losing a loved one to cancer is hard. The feelings inside you can't always be explained properly, are difficult to understand, and feel impossible to endure. "Ronan" connects with a listener on a raw, emotional level that's deeper than a breakup or fleeting memory. What makes this her best choice is the fact that it truly means something - to the mother it was written for, to the girl who wrote and sang the song, and to those of us who understand the feelings. "Ronan" is the best single Taylor Swift has released because it is the most meaningful song she has written and because she truly communicated that meaning in its sound and her voice.
"Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here...
Out of this curtained room in this hospital grey, we'll just
disappear.
Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here...
You were my best four years.
What if I'm standing in your closet trying to talk to you?
What if I kept the hand-me-downs you won't grow into?
And what if I really thought some miracle would see us
through?
What if the miracle was even getting one moment with you?"
Take Care is Drake’s best single hands down. The song sticks out among the vast majority of pop singles: it’s experimental, mature, and has great storytelling. Drake is conflicted: he wants to be with Rihanna, but she has a questionable reputation; he’s convinced she loves him even though she doesn’t admit it in public; he wants to take care of her, but she has a lot of baggage—the song is filled with complex emotions and there is no way out. Meanwhile, the beat perfectly captures the conflict in the song: there is a comforting piano running through the track reflecting the calm of being with someone you can love, but also a thudding beat that to me sounds like the frustration of being unable to proceed in the relationship complete with musical breakdown made up of a vocal sample of: “Don’t tell me I don’t care if you hurt” in addition to a taunting: “uh-uh-uh-uh” at the same time also showing the emotional conflict of caring about somebody and also wary of moving further. The song is perfect.
Personally, it hit me at the perfect time. I was in a relationship with somebody I could see being with long term and I wanted to go further, but it was borderline impossible to continue on because of issues I was going through. It was a time when I didn’t really understand what was going on in my life and I was conflicted and unsure of what to do. I was working long hours, trying to get through school, and working out a lot of other personal issues. I was listening to this album and song a lot during the time and I didn’t realize until months later how the song connected to me and mirrored my state of mind. The song helped me through that time and it was and is my favorite Drake single.
For this challenge, I picked the song C'mon by Kesha. It's the second single from her sophomore album Warrior. C'mon is one of those songs that not only makes you wanna dance, but it puts you in a good, overall positive mood. Just a fun song about just letting go. Who doesn't love a good stress relieving pop song. Speaking of stress, there was a time back in 2012 when I was just so annoyed and consumed with worry about life and what I was going to do with my life, but when I listened to C'mon, it was like a big explosion to my ears and soul. The life I received was beyond anything I could have comprehended at the time. The bridge is the part that speaks to me the most.
I don't wanna go to sleep, I wanna stay up all night, I wanna just screw around, I don't wanna think about what's gonna be after this, I wanna just live right now
I love it so much, because it's so magical and euphoric. I just needed to let loose back then and just forget everything that happened and to stop worrying about everything that was gonna happen and just live for now. It's my favorite Kesha bridge and one of my favorite bridges in a pop ever. This is how Kesha's music makes me feel. It goes beyond just production and vocals. It just takes me to another world. It's definitely my favorite Kesha single for all the reasons listed above. So, every now and then I need a night of just having fun and forgetting about all the things that I can't even control and just focus on the present and have as much fun as possible and enjoy life and embrace all of it's magic.

In Februrary of 1974, Cher released what would become her third solo, U.S. #1 single. Dark Lady thematically concerns infidelity and the pursuant vengeance. We must take a moment to appreciate the startling dichotomy between the eerily upbeat backing track and the dramatic lyrical content. Cher's contralto cuts through the words, spitting them out with malicious glee that deliciously supplements one of the campiest songs in her entire discography.
Ignoring the fact that the song is illogical because absolutely no one in the proper frame of mind could cheat on Cher, this track connects to me for one simple reason: It's fun. As much as I love bopping to the innovative Believe, nodding to the touching cover of Heart of Stone, or singing along with If I Could Turn Back Time, there is no experience for me that better defines Cher than Dark Lady. It's campy, it's fun, and it's gay as hell. What more could you want?

Released in early 2000, It showed Sade's consistency in quality even after almost 15 years from their debut.
Sade's well known slow-beat was totally an improved from their previous albums, making it more consistent without losing this interesting, relaxed production that Sade have always had.
Well written lyrics depicting a love story that will never be collapsed by anything. It goes exactly to the main point of the song, without extra/filler lines. And the video, a good concept executed perfectly.
Their best single to date and one of their best songs overall. ARTSOUL.

People, or "bullies", will never understand that we all did some things in the past that we are probably ashamed of and they will keep on going to attack you for that. I've been bullied a lot these past years and people are always laughing at me on the halls, calling me fat and ugly. This song made me get through it and it made me realise that all those bullies don't matter and that your friends are the only ones that can understand you and your past.

Why is Diamonds Rihanna's best single?
The lead single from the Barbadian Songstress Rihanna, released in September 2012, is the truly gem in her discography.
First, it's the first song by Rihanna that I absolutely fell in love with at the first listen.
Second, I loved the fact that after two huge dance songs as lead single she went for a more soft change of pace.
The fact about Diamonds is that you can listen to it when you're happy: it's hopeful and it gives you this soft feeling of joy, while combined with the video - and not necessary - it can give you this dark feeling.
It, arguably, has one of her best vocals to date, and another thing why I love this single so much is because she loves to perform it. Every time she nails it, and she really convinced me at the last year's AMA's when, before accepting her Icon award, she performed the song with a full orchestra and it had this mystical feeling to it, and you could see the joy in her eyes.
Finally, the last argument is the positive lyrics that the song has. It gives me hope. And while someone could say the lyrics are too repetitive, in my opinion you don't even notice it because of the way she sings them.

Dirrty projected a vastly different image of Christina and summed up the direction she was going for with her Stripped era, back in 2002. It was going to spark controversy, no matter what. Dirrty IS Christina's best single because it did its job as a single. She garnered attention with such an over-sexualised, in-your-face nature. A single is supposed to draw in potential buyers and aware people of what you're trying to ultimately "sell" or "market", which Dirrty and still continues to do to this day. It's long-lasting impact in pop culture and society resonates with Christina's career. You don't get many singles like that - in a lifetime. Through Dirrty's initial premise, it provoked people to listen to what Christina had to say. The lyrics aren't too complicated and you're capable of singing along to the song. If a casual music lover was listening to Dirrty, the song wouldn't be too alienating but would also present Christina in a different way than she's usually perceived as (especially back then when she first debuted). She had released Dirrty when the Hip Hop wave was just starting to gain popularity and momentum. It still sounds fresh today.

This song is HEAVEN. The production, the unique, yet beautiful vocals, the video
I have a good feeling y'all will enjoy this one. The reason I chose this song is because it is simply fantastic. I love this song because it feels like a perfect way to end the kin era (their latest album)
The song almost feels like a farewell to the fans (for the time being) as they only release music every 2 years.
She tells us in the second verse about how she will be leaving us for a while but she is only doing so, so that she can work hard on great music that will live up to our expectations. She tells us that she cares about us but she must go for now
"Don't expect to hear from me
'Cause I have got to feed our hungry mouths
I do enjoy your company
But we must work to keep you content"
This is my theme song. I don't go a single day without this glorious heaven sent disco influenced bop. It's so infectious and fun that you will never want to stop listening, ever.
I adore the production here. It's disco, but it's not disco, it's like a completely different genre. It's alternative music but it's not alternative music. It's so interesting and euphoric. It makes me sad that this song will never smash because it is just so fantastic. I love how Jonna and Claes mix the two (Pop and Alternative) genres in order to make magic. It works so well. The vocals are so different than most pop songs so odds are, it would not do well on radio but then again, the chorus and melodies are so infectious and catchy, you could also see it smashing straight to number 1!
My favourite part of the song is during the second chorus right before the breakdown when all goes silent for a few seconds, then the instrumental comes booming right back in. You will literally make this face
This song has so much meaning to me and it truly made me love this project 2823283x more than I already did before. It is by far one of my favourite songs of all time and I'm not even exaggerating. The first time I listened to this, chills went up my spine and I was squealing like a little school girl This song is LIFE
Just give this song a listen and I promise you guys will bopping from here to kingdom come
Thanks for reading guys

Firstly, Applause is a single people choose to dislike because it didn't sell enough but for me, it's a classic Gaga song. It has a catchy hook, strange lyrics "pop culture was in art, now art's in pop culture in me", and a fantastic beat. It's truly a song only she could pull off.
Another reason why it's my favourite Gaga single is the stunning performances she gave us, from the opening VMAs referencing past eras to the eccentric performance on Japan Music station, to the beautiful acoustic rendition of it. http://m.metatube.com/en/videos/2116...an-2013-11-29/

Mariah's Best Single -- Heartbreaker (feat. Jay-Z)
So when thinking for this round, I tried to do differently. For choosing my favorite single, I looked at multiple things. Quality of the song ofcourse, performances, memorable moments, music video, etc. It all came down to Mariah's #1 hit in 1999, 'Heartbreaker' with Jay-Z.
There's plenty of reasons I think this shines above the rest; one of my favorites is the video.
I remember before I was a Mariah fan, I saw the video on MTV. It was one of the few moments I loved a song of hers before being a stan, and the video was just so cute to me. > The choreo, the setting, the dialogue, Mariah's alter ego being introduced, and the iconic fighting scene. Furthermore, the song in general is amazing, an obvious 10/10. It was her best single to date at that point, not to mention it showed a fun and sexy side of Mariah. One that stepped away from the less serious, and ballad Mariah, while standing true to the love songs. The remix also makes the song to die for even more. I also have the physical single, and I absolutely adore it. Her best physical single.

In 2012, Azealia Banks was at the top of her game. Off the critically acclaimed 1991 EP, Ms.Banks released the title track to this masterpiece on September 2nd 2012. With a video that gives an homage to Crystal Waters and Aaliyah, the song "1991" is a throwback to the early 90s with Azealia rapping over a house beat, using the popular genre of the late 80s/early 90s known as "hip house"
With an infectious beat and outstanding video, 1991 has always been my favorite song from Azealia. Back during Azealia's hey-day when everyone praised her every move, both the song and video of 1991 have been some all time favorites for me. I specifically chose 1991 over 212 as I believe that this track beams originality and creativity. No other female rapper out there has since released a song or video similar to this work of art. Not only does this song show off Azealia's sick flow, the song also shows off Azealia's great vocals as she sings "NY rose me, most high chose me" throughout the outro of the song. I've always been attracted to talent in music and 1991 shows off all the talent Azealia has.
For my entry, I have chosen "Stay The Night". I didn't have much to choose from, but even if there was, I would've still chosen this song. I think this is one of their best songs in general. It was the song that got me hooked into them. It was released 4 years ago and still sounds fresh up until today! I just love the fun feeling I get from it. I always love listening to this whenever I want to listen to them. The music video is pretty cute too because of the Ke$ha shade.
In my opinion Alexandra's best single is All Night Long (feat. Pitbull)
I love this song because it's catchy, infectious and Alexandra sounds amazing. I prefer the original version with only her, however Pitbull adds a rap which you can't help but rap along to.
It's a great song to play when you're drunk, in a good mood or if's just simply summer. She gave us this bop to enjoy and it's flawless. That's why I love it, it's about having a good time.

I could've interpreted this in different ways. The criteria to find Kesha's best single is so wide, that practically all of her songs had appealing qualities which made me want to choose them. If I had brought it down to, perhaps, which song is played the most, this would've been different - but there's something about "Your Love Is My Drug" which attracts me to it. YLIMD, at it's surface, appears to be a song celebrating love - Kesha is so head over heels and happy, she celebrates
it through the song, chanting "Your love, your love, your love is my drug". Upon looking deeper, you realise this is not the case. The lyrics of YLIMD depict a love which was slightly unhealthy, which is what makes the song so relatable. The lyrics, to me, describe the feeling of love so accurately - it brings back thoughts and memories of people over the years who you've thought you were in love with; people who's love, to you, felt like a drug. Always on your mind, craving them, feeling an infinite euphoria if even the slightest connection happened, as if only feeding your addiction. So, to me, this is why YLIMD is Kesha's best single. The lyrics are ingenious. They are perfectly relatable, and I'm sure bring back memories for us all who have felt this way. It even brings me to question love slightly. We all see love as a perfect thing everybody should strive for, but the song shows a different side to this - love is not entirely good, it is like a drug, it can in some ways ruin you and leave your dependent and addicted. At it's core, the song is also insanely catchy and like a drug in itself, getting stuck in your head due to it's infectious chorus and the humour thrown in throughout. Again, it's like the cherry on top. Fun, catchy music with meaning.

My favorite Britney and what I, and probably millions others, see it as her best single is the poisonous Toxic. I won't even start talking about the video because my mouth won't even stop, so instead I decided to focus on the music.
Beside being dubbed as the redefiner of dance-pop music's sound and being listed as one of the best songs of the decade by Rolling Stone, NME and Pitchfork, Toxic still sounds as if it was released today even though it was out (with the album) over 10 years ago. It is different, catchy, irresistible, fierce, strong and innovative. The high string's at the beginning are so inviting and they defined the song, it became a signature sound, once you here it you know it's Toxic. The breathy vocals compliment the production and give it a sensual feeling. The song and it's lyrics are so good that they can be portrayed in many different ways, that's why literally everybody covered the song.
Toxic is without a doubt my favorite song I've ever heard in my life, it's just really.. intoxicating..

Everybody's heard it, and millions of people across the globe love it. Madonna's Like A Prayer is a massive pop track with elements of rock and gospel music throughout. The song begins with an enigmatic and distorted guitar riff that's sure to grab your attention. After a few seconds, the guitar comes to a halt, leading to Madonna's well-known "Life is a mystery..." opening line. By then, there's no turning back! The song lifts into its lively and invigorating pop chorus, and continues to elevate with each moment as the background choir grows stronger and stronger. The song was immediately met with critical acclaim and is widely regarded as one of the best pop songs of all time.
Like A Prayer was also a turning point in Madonna's career, as she began to explore into more artistic and personal territories with her music starting with this single. With the song, she began to prove to her doubters that she was not just an 80's fad, and that she was an ever-changing artist who was here to stay. Equipped with an iconic and controversial video, Like A Prayer hits all of the marks and was a truly important moment in pop music. There was no question in my choice of this song as Madonna's best single.

Fall Out Boy's "Dance Dance" is undoubtedly their best single. Even though their more "emo" style music may be played out to the general public, everyone still loves "Dance Dance". The song tells a story of a guy who's obsessing over someone in a romantic sense, and wants to let them know how he feels about them, but just can't because he's too paranoid and shy. The chorus goes in to explain to just say f*ck it and say what needs to be said.
The reason this single is their best is because the lyrics are so blunt and relatable. Mostly everyone on the face of this planet has been obsessed with someone and wanting to tell them how they feel, but can't due to fear out of what will happen. And everyone who does that needs a reminder to just say it ( or in the case of this song, just dance). The instrumentation helps with being catchy and fast paced, leading to a song that everyone can bop along to and forget their inhibitions with.

Lyrically it talks of the struggles we may face in our lives, which is a common theme in most of her songs. Although the song starts out quite peppy vocally and instrumentally, as it plays out it slowly loses tempo and feels a bit more depressing, especially in the spoken word section where she lists out all the problems with our world, like Janelle herself is starting to lose hope as the song plays out. The song has always stood out to me the most of her singles since I first heard it, and is definitely her best single.

I have chosen Home as Michael's best single. Despite under-performing substantially in the UK at first, the single was met with great success after a global re-release, and is without a doubt his best and most impactful single to-date. Home was released from his second major release, It's Time and was his first self-written track to be released. Along with showcasing his ability to pen beautiful original songs, Home was [vocally] a necessary step towards his own sound and away from the Elvis/Frank emulating found in his earlier work. For me, Home was the beginning of the Michael we know today. After the recording of this song, personal lyrics that reflected his own life became more common in his catalog and he progressively found a sound to call his own, opening doors for songs like Haven't Met You Yet, Hollywood and Its A Beautiful Day. Evidently, Home marked a major milestone for not only himself, but modern jazz artists in-general. The song made a huge splash in the mainstream and gained tons of notoriety on multiple formats. Since being released in 2005, the song has been covered many times, most notably by Westlife and Blake Shelton, which were both certified. To this day, the song still sees high daily spins and is covered by aspiring artists in various countries. Home may not personally speak to me, but I am appreciative of all the endeavors it has allowed Michael to achieve and everything else that has stemmed from it. This song truly marked the end of nightclub act Michael and the rise of major superstar, Michael Bublé.

No, Taylor is easily better doing pop! The debates subside with this track, as she mixes both perfectly into one song that all can enjoy. • Solely written: Taylor wrote this all on her own, showing her multiple talents by both singing and writing. • Great success: Until the Red era came around, this was Taylor's biggest song on Billboard, peaking at #2. It also comes from (debatably) Swift's biggest era, Fearless. The fact that it peaked over massive hits like Love Story shows how the public enjoyed it and can actually feel the lyrics. • Music Video: The video for YBWM only emphasizes and strengthens the messages in the song and truly brings it to life. It's one of my personal favorites, and it seems I'm not the only one as it's her most viewed video with over 324mil views. ♥

I really like how cynic it is, and really makes you think about how sad Lana must have been while writing that song. And now onto the lyrics, which is my favorite part of Lana's artistry.
Come on take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words,
This is the last time
Cause you and I
We were born to die [3x]
She just has a way with words that just makes you imagine the scene she's trying to describe. Those lyrics, albeit depicting such a generic subject such as living for the moment, are so original and well written. Also, again repeating the oxymoron "Born To Die" At the end of the chorus leaves such a strong impression on the listener. The phrase itself is just so powerful.
Last but certainly not least, onto the production of the song. The beats carries a simple pop melody throughout the song with heavy hip hop influences which creates such a hypnotic feeling in me. I don't know how to describe it but it just happens. Her voice also compliments the beat extremely well.

Its huge house synths build and suddenly crash, like a tumultuous breakup, but Carly's confident yet vulnerable belt soars above them all, repeating the title phrase with increasing fervor until it practically becomes a battle cry, sailing higher and higher above the wailing house breakdown below her, convincing us all that, not only will she move on but that we can to.
The song has gotten me through numerous periods of emotional dejection, as I too have felt the sting of still wanting to be with someone who's hurt me so deeply but having to push on because I know I can't let him take over my whole being, that I need to push on.

There's no doubt about how great R&B music was in the 90's. Keyword: nineties. Nowadays R&B music on the radio leans much more towards the Pop sound, radio plays pop songs with minor R&B influences, it is like R&B is non-existent on radio. You can not blame artists for not taking the risk by releasing singles with high R&B influences as this is business. However, Ariana Grande, despite being a brand new artist, took that risk with her second single, "Baby I." Which features heavy R&B vibes and is reminiscent of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston's older music. The song showcases Ariana's extraordinary talent hitting notes such as F#5, F#6 and D6. The lyrics revolve around a confession by Grande telling how she can't formulate the strong love she feels towards her partner and put the feelings into words. The theme goes perfectly with the sound and the song progression is flawless. Don't miss the fantastic bridge.

On a technical level, the lyrics speak of forgiving a lover's mistakes and taking them back again and again. It's a simple but effective message with it's title based around an old proverb, but it's something surprisingly mature for a woman of 22 to be singing about. The sound of the song seems like a natural progression from her first two albums and it introduced the disco sound that Kylie would continue to revisit and be ultimately associated with. Not to mention those infectiously catchy "woh-oh's".
That's what makes it a great song, but what makes it a great single is the whole package. Kylie's new image, the new sound and mature feel, the controversial (at the time) video and ultimate shift in her career. Going from a twelve-year-old's favourite artist to a disco goddess, serving dance-club floor fillers. Ultimately, it was the start of Kylie as a gay icon. It failed to chart as well as her previous singles had, but it remains one of the most iconic and well-loved songs in her discography.

Instead, she chose a more subtle and smooth vocal style, especially after the end of the bridge, where, in the usual place of the cliche big note of pop ballads, she delivers the breathtaking "time" note. Therefore, it really stands out in her discography and I get the feeling it's as special to her as it is to me. And the lyrics are so relatable in their simplicity and straight forward nature. This track is stunning to me.
