Beyoncé: Official movie details released
It's official!
Knowles to rev up 'Cadillac'
By Leslie Simmons
Feb 20, 2008
Beyonce Knowles
Beyonce Knowles is adding "executive producer" to her resume.
The 10-time Grammy winner has signed on to executive produce and star in Darnell Martin's "Cadillac Records" for Sony BMG Films.
Knowles will play Etta James in the 1950s period film about the Chicago record company Chess Records; its founder, Leonard Chess; and the turbulent lives of some of the label's legends, who included Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf and Chuck Berry.
Martin ("Their Eyes Were Watching God") penned the screenplay. Sony BMG's Andrew Lack and Sofia Sondervan are producing for the 3-year-old specialty label.
Knowles joins a cast that includes Adrien Brody (Chess), Jeffrey Wright (Waters), Cedric the Entertainer (Willie Dixon) and Columbus Short (Little Walter). Emmanuelle Chriqui and Tammy Blanchard co-star.
Music for the film is being produced by Steve Jordan ("Cars," "The Sopranos"). Knowles will record four songs for the soundtrack, which will be released through Music World Entertainment and Columbia Records.
The singer-actress will donate a portion of her fees for the film to recovering addicts through her family's charity, the Survivor Foundation, according to her reps.
Knowles ("Austin Powers in Goldmember") earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role as Deena Jones in 2006's "Dreamgirls" and a 2008 Grammy nomination for best compilation soundtrack album for the film. She also was nominated for the record of the year Grammy this year for her song "Irreplaceable."
Knowles is repped by ICM and Music World Entertainment.

Beyonce To Portray Legendary Blues Singer Etta James In 'Cadillac Records'
Film about influential record label also features Adrien Brody, Cedric the Entertainer, Jeffrey Wright.
By Jayson Rodriguez
Beyoncé is bound for the big screen once again.
The "Irreplaceable" singer will star as legendary blues singer Etta James in Darnell Martin's "Cadillac Records," according to The Hollywood Reporter. She will also serve as one of the movie's executive producers.
"Cadillac Records" will follow the life of Chess — who ran the legendary record company with his brother, Phil, through the 1950s and '60s — and the label's lineup of musical icons, including James, Muddy Waters (Jeffrey Wright), Willie Dixon (Cedric the Entertainer) and Little Walter (Columbus Short). Oscar winner Adrien Brody is scheduled to play Chess, the influential Chicago-based record-company executive.
The role is the first for Beyoncé since her turn as Deena Jones in the musical "Dreamgirls." As Jones, the singer earned two Golden Globe nominations, for Best Actress in a Motion Picture and Best Original Song.
While her "Dreamgirls" character was loosely based on Diana Ross, Beyoncé will have some big shoes to fill as the real-life James. The gutsy and full-figured legend belted out many standout blues and jazz tracks, including "At Last," which she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for in 1999.
James has long been a revered figure among female singers. Christina Aguilera has called James her idol and doted on her in interviews. In 2006, as part of InStyle magazine's pairing of singers and their musical mentors, James and Aguilera met and were photographed together.
"Etta is my all-time favorite singer," Aguilera told MTV News at the time. "I've said it for the last seven years — since I had my first debut record out — in every interview, in every story, in every on- and off-camera question. I mean, all of Etta's old songs, countless songs I could name, I grew up listening to. That music was always such a huge escape for me, even from a young age."
As of press time, no release date had been scheduled for the film.

Beyoncé: Etta James "Honored to have [Beyonce]" play her!
Etta is Going to Teach Beyonce a Thing or Two
Posted Thu. Feb. 21, 2008 9:46am by Matt Donnelly
Beyoncé is going to have the best coach in the biz when she takes on the role of Etta James in Cadillac Records, a forthcoming movie about Etta's life. The legendary singer tells PageSix.com exclusively that she's going to be advising the "Bootylicious" star herself.
"It's a privilege and an honor to have somebody like that girl. I don't think she looks like me, but that's all right. They can fix that up," Etta tells us.
And appearance isn't all Beyoncé will have to work on.
"Oh my god, she's going to have a hill to climb, because Etta James ain't been no angel!" she says.
Producers have informed Etta that she'll get the chance to consult with the 26-year-old Destiny's Child star, giving her pointers on both the acting and the singing — the latter being something the "At Last" singer was most concerned with when she got wind of the casting.
Of her many hits, Etta feels, "I have my own way of putting those songs over, and I was just wondering if Beyoncé could, and my son said, 'They're thinking about how she looks, but mama, she can really sing!'"
It was the Dreamgirls star's performance at the Grammys earlier this month that won Etta over, when Jay-Z's main squeeze rocked "Proud Mary" with Tina Turner.
"I kinda have a man's voice. It's a contralto, more bluesy, religious. I would really like to work with her on that," the 70-year-old songstress says.
Of her life lessons, Etta, who battled heroin addiction for many years, says, "I can tell Beyoncé some things; some of the things I might not tell her."
She does stress that the emotional transformation Beyoncé must undergo will have to be a little intense.
"I wasn't as bourgie as she is, she's bourgeois. She knows how to be a lady, she's like a model. I wasn't like that... I smoked in the bathroom in school, I was kinda arrogant, so those are some of the things I would want to tell her."
The flick will co-star Adrien Brody (reportedly replacing Matt Damon) in the role of music exec Leonard Chess, as well as Cedric the Entertainer and Jeffrey Wright.
The meeting between the divas will be happening soon, as sources tell us filming is scheduled to start on March 10 in New Jersey, with two days on location in Mississippi

Will.I.Am Readying Second Barack Obama Video -- Possibly With Beyonce's Help
George Lopez, John Leguizamo have already recorded vocals for 'We Are the Ones.'
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Yasmine Richard
Two weeks after Barack Obama delivered his "Yes We Can" speech in Nashua, New Hampshire, the Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am assembled an all-star cast of musicians and actors (including Common, John Legend and Scarlett Johansson) to appear on his "remix" of the speech and the accompanying video, an arty, black-and-white clip that quickly became a YouTube sensation, racking up more than 4 million views.
Now, two weeks after Obama delivered another speech — this one from his hometown of Chicago, after a triumphant Super Tuesday in which he won 14 states — Will is at it again, booking time in a Los Angeles studio to record yet another pro-Obama tune.
"Right now, since we're in the early stages, I think the song is gonna be called 'We Are the Ones.' It's inspired by a line in his speech after Super Tuesday, when he was in Chicago: 'We are the ones we have been waiting for,' " he told MTV News. "It lit another inspirational fire in me when he said that in his speech. So I decided to get to work on another track. We're lining up people to appear on it right now, and that's the easy part, because people are just passionate to want to be a part of it. There's no casting ... the inspiration is the casting director."
Though the "Ones" project is still in the early stages, MTV News heard a snippet of the song, and, in keeping with the spoken-word feel of his "Yes We Can" track, it's pretty minimal: little more than some Rhodes piano chords, some "We Will Rock You" handclaps and a chanted chorus of "O-Ba-Ma! O-Ba-Ma!"
"I kept it real simple and bare to the bones because it's really more about what people are saying," Will said.
So far comedians/actors George Lopez and John Leguizamo have recorded spoken parts for the track, and a publicist for the project told MTV News Jessica Alba, Ryan Phillippe, Ben McKenzie, Macy Gray and the Black Eyed Peas' Tabu are slated to participate. And rumor has it that Beyoncé is trying to clear up her schedule to make an appearance too. The whole thing is coming together with a spur-of-the-moment kind of feel (in the studio, Will was collaborating with a New York-based percussionist via online chat service Skype), and it looks like that's the way it'll be until the song is finished.
"I'm here in the studio, doing the new Obama song, then I leave tonight, head straight for the airport, take the files with me on the airplane, and I'll be finishing my part of the song in the air," Will explained. "When I land — every airport has Internet — then I'll send what I did on the airplane back to have them edit the video, so then in 24 hours, half the video will be done."
It seems like an awful lot of work for a guy who hasn't even been contacted by Obama's campaign. "I don't expect to. If I did, I would be worried. ... If the phone call comes in, like, 'Hey, this is Barack Obama, I want to talk to you,' I'd be like, 'Uh, hey dude. You should be running for president. I'll talk to you later,' " Will laughed. But he sees it as his civic duty, his chance to sway potential voters and get them interested in the candidate that Will thinks can change everything, the candidate that has personally inspired him.
"When we were in high school, junior high and elementary, they made us recite speeches: 'Four score and seven years ago,' 'Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.' And we remember those lines, it was part of our homework," he said. "And these kids nowadays, there's no one in the political world that says anything that kids want to recite. It's all fear tactics and things like that. Agendas that go over kids' heads. ... But here's this man named Barack Obama, who, for the first time in a long time, is gonna be part of [kids'] homework assignments to recite these words.
"And there's a lot of skeptical people out there who say, 'Well, those are just words.' But I say, 'When was the last time words didn't mean anything? When was the last time you didn't use words to define how you felt, or describe the things you want to achieve?' " he continued. "Words are powerful. Words and images together are powerful. Words, music and images are even more powerful. So I wanted to do my part with the 'Yes We Can' song, and the result of that has inspired me to no end. The youth in America is waking up. The slumber is gone. We can't continue to do things in the dark, now that someone has turned on the light. ... It's beautiful."

Beyoncé: Headed to Chicago...plus DVD chart news!
February 21, 2008
Beyonce Is Comin' To Town
Get excited, Chicago: entertainment mogul and the woman responsible for hits such as “Bug a Boo,” “Nasty Girl” and “Bootylicious” is coming! Beyonce will be spending time in Chicago doing research for her upcoming film Cadillac Records where she will not only take on the role of executive producer but will also star as legendary singer Etta James. No word yet on when she will actually arrive, but we’re certain well know as soon as her private jet lands, as Beyonce buzz travels fast. The film will mainly be shot in New Jersey and Mississippi, but may shoot in Chicago for a few exteriors.
Cadillac, set in the 1950s, is about legendary label Chess Records, originally located at 2120 S. Michigan Ave for you trivia buffs. Adrien Brody (who will also hopefully be doing research in Chicago, ahem) is set to play founder Leonard Chess, and Jeffrey Wright is on board as Muddy Waters.
According to Bill Zwecker, Ms. Knowles is "taking her producing duties on the film very seriously -- with plans to spend a bit of time in Chicago to do research on James, Chess Records and the singer's relationship with the label."
Other things we hope Beyonce will research while in Chicago: local reactions to her high energy Comcast spots, particulars for possible future wedding reception at Navy Pier, real estate for a potential House of Dereon flagship store… [Billboard, S-T]

She has supposedly been putting finishing touches on the album in New York...I think its a dangerous time for her to release stuff if they are trying to seriously give Michelle and Kelly a chance with their scheduled releases...I think there is room for all of them, but radio and the general public probably doesn.

Knowles, Larter, Elba are 'Obsessed'
Steve Shill to direct Screen Gems thriller
By MICHAEL FLEMING
Beyonce Knowles, Ali Larter and Idris Elba will star in "Obsessed," a thriller that Screen Gems will put into production this summer.
Steve Shill will direct a script by David Loughery. Will Packer produces, and Knowles will be exec producer along with her father, Mathew Knowles.
Screen Gems topper Clint Culpepper is finalizing cast deals, working with Knowles' and Larter's reps to iron out scheduling kinks. Knowles is also producing and co-starring as Etta James in "Cadillac Records" for Sony BMG; Larter is working on episodes of NBC's "Heroes."
In "Obsessed," Elba will play an asset manager who has a knockout wife (Knowles) and thriving career until a temp office worker (Larter) begins stalking him.
Knowles was last seen onscreen in "Dreamgirls," Larter in the Screen Gems films "Resident Evil: Extinction" and "Final Destination," and Elba last appeared in "American Gangster." He next stars in "Prom Night" for Screen Gems.
