Maybe some TRL spotlight is all they need.

Mike, can you stop complaining, please? You should actually be lucky because of the fact that hip-hop songs are TRL flops nowadays and that the pop songs are usually the only ones to retire.

Well in the past year we've had:
RHCP - Dani California
FOB - Dance, Dance & A Little Less 16 Candles A Little More Touch Me
AFI - Love Like Winter
That's about 1/4 of it, but still could be more.

Yeah, and the only hip-hop song to retire last year was Fort Minor's Where'd You Go (which I think is pretty mediocre).

That's definitely not right!

Rock is doing pretty well on the c/d right now. They're actually going to fill up like half the c/d on Monday. There's Fall Out Boy (who will retire), Evanescence (who might retire), The Fray (sadly, no), and in the future, MCR (still no).
And to make Mike happy, there's was no rap on the c/d ever since Eminem fell off.
There are 4 R&B songs with one about to fall off (Ciara (might fall off), Paula Deanda (might fall off), Danity Kane, and Beyonce) and 3 pop songs with one retired and one about to debut (Jojo, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera (retired), and Gwen Stefani (it's gonna debut)).

Well, I would think JoJo is more R&B than Paula Deanda, especially with some of the tracks on The High Road.
But it is interesting that the c/d is kind of balanced between 3 genres. I like it better that way, since I have a varied taste in music. But for the c/d to be truly varied enough for me, Ludacris would have to replace Paula Deanda, and Miracle would have to be given a First Look and replace Promise.

Well, I put Paula Deanda as R&B because I hear her songs on urban radio stations.

30 Seconds to Mars' new video needs some love too. I don't care if it's 13 minutes long, just show half of it.

I know, isn't there an alternate version that's shorter anyway. I mean if they can show "A Little Less Sixteen Candles..." ( ), there's no reason they can't show them, especially because 30STM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fall Out Boy.

I think rap gets it worse than rock does. At least we have Fall out Boy and AFI who can retire, but not even Eminem can do that nowadays. That could be due to the fact that mainstream rap is ******** and has nothing new to offer.

I can't wait for Smile to hit TRL.The video is nasty. But i would hav wish she had released LDN first instead. That wld hit US by storm. That song is so bubbly good. But still, without Smile,we won't know Lily.so everyone..."SMILE!"

You would think that playing ALLSCALMTM, you would be able to play From Yesterday, but you do have to consider that it is an hour long show and using half of the video is already 1/10 of the show, plus commercials, the other videos on the countdown, any premieres, guests, or games.

I totally agree! I do still like some rap songs, but I think its kind of obviuos that there is beginning to be a bit of backlash against rap on the c/d. I think the only "rap" video to retire last year was Fort Minor.
But...then again, theres eventually backlash against nearly everything.

OH MY GOSH! I'm scared, Trl might be cancelled....I will be so sad, what will happen to musicians and cd sales, TRL is one main reason why music is still alive these days.....

TRL is the reason music sucks today. If it gets cancelled I'll be glad

TRL needs to be cancelled and then MTV needs to have another decent countdown show not like TRL.

I wouldn't blame them if they cancelled this show. The Producers and some of that staff of TRL have let this show turn into an often runaway train wreck it is.
If they want to improve the show's ratings in the meantime, they can axe the deush who thought it was perfect to have the show on before school lets out for the majority of US kids/college students. (AKA their prime targeted audience!!!) The show would be doing so much better if they had the show on before the channel's nightly primetime lineup. Otherwise, rebranding is the perfect answer.
