Not exactly.
Britney and Rihanna have amazing songs under their belts that's why I'm a fan of their music. They're lack of vocal talent is made up by the great pop songs they sing. Then there is somebody like Adele who has a great voice but her music isn't exactly my taste, I'm not going to listen to her just because her voice is great because her music doesn't interest me. Music is music, as long as you love the song who cares who wrote it? Many don't even label Britney or Rihanna as ''artists'' but as ''pop stars'' which is perfectly alright. BTW, idk about Rihanna, but Britney can write some beautiful songs and sing them very beautifully. Her creativity and talent is extremely underrated due to the fact that her record label keeps releasing autotune/techno **** for her. She should record more songs like ''Let Go''.

Britney and Rihanna are not good examples. Both have written or take part in writing some of their music, and Britney existed in the industry before the term "pop artist" was really redefined by Lady Gaga. Britney is exempt from this, and her legacy alone proves it. Rihanna may not write most of her music, but she is a great director of her sound, image, and musical identity. She picks out the songs that identify most with her, and then has them tweaked and reworked to more accurately represent her vision. Rihanna is most definitely an artist.
I honestly can not think of a specific pop star Gaga is referring to or has in mind that is currently famous.
