Of course the title has the low-end prediction.

That's not to say Born This Way was a flop or anything and it still opened much higher than Prism....they're just different artists. Gaga has a fervent young fanbase that rushes out while Katy's appeal is more general and people start buying their music at a slower, but more consistent rate.

This is true. Devoted fans (this is another way of saying "stans & big fans") will purchase in the first week in masses. Gaga has more devoted fans than Katy. After that, more general fans are the ones who will hold up sales. If the album appeals to a variety of people, it will hold extremely well (i.e. Lorde's Pure Heroine - alternative, pop, female demos appeal is all strong),

You all set up ridiculously high expectations for PRISM & didn't learn from 3 years ago. Katy debuted at the height of the rise of the digital era & like other artists that debuted during this time, her album buying fanbase in the initial weeks isn't as strong as artists that debuted before this time. Katy, Rihanna, Miley, etc (in terms of looking at pop girls that rose during this time, Gaga being an exception because she's a phenomenon that built up an incredibly devoted fanbase that purchases in masses). These numbers are excellent, and you all can be disappointed while Capitol & Katy throw a party for the huge rise from TD.
Artists like Katy are more focused on longevity & overall impact throughout an era, 1st week is just the beginning.

exactly and it's pretty ridiculous how these non-stans are expecting 10x more numbers from her stans. i don't get it but well said

I'm so done really. This proves how much singles-driven she is. Yes, I know all artist are single-driven, but the bigger the ratio between single sales and albums sales is, the more singles-driven the artist is. And don't talk to me about longevity cuz first week sales are the factor that truly measures an established artist's selling power and the demand for them.

First week sales are a measure of their devoted fanbase strength in my opinion. In addition with devoted fans, first week sales are also a measure of how quickly the album latches on to the GP. Sometimes, like with an album like Night Visions, the GP latches on as the band gathers more hits.

This is around the same as P!nk and Rihanna. Both of them have longer careers and more tours as well, so where is the logic behind that? If first week sales are truly an objective measure for selling, than does that mean Madonna has more selling more than Katy Perry, P!nk, Rihanna, etc in terms of albums and singles?

Chill out, its still just prediction. She can sell above 300k. And yeah some artists are more single-driven but thats not something bad. Its just concerning about songs more individually than take the album as the whole piece.

You'd think after TD, everyone would've known already the fact that Katy has never been a frontloaded album seller. Let them have their fun though, since their faves aren't providing enough. This is a great increase from TD and that's all that matters.

That "600k" was never a formal prediction. A month before the album was release when Eminem released his album. All the writer said was "Katy Perry is the only upcoming release that could match it" or something like that.
They predicted 180-200k based on first day sales.

A little low for an established artist like Katy but, hey, it's an improvement over TD's numbers. I guess some people's album sales just can't live up to their single sales. Good for Katy though. I'm sure her and her label will be happy.
