Meme Version: Hillary defended a child rapist and laughed about it, so she's evil.
Actual Version: Hillary, while serving as a public defense attorney, was asked to defend someone who was charged for rape. Hillary accepted the request because she was asked to do so as a favor. Once she got into actually examining the case, she did not feel comfortable defending the defendant and wanted to be released from the case. This was in Arkansas, and in that state only the judge can release a lawyer from a case once they've committed to it. Hillary requested to be released from it, and the judge denied her request. Hillary commented in an interview that she fully believed that he was guilty, but she had to defend him regardless because that is her job as a defense attorney. She was required to defend him to the best of her ability. He had a polygraph test done and Hillary commented in an interview, years later, that it made her lose faith in the polygraph test. In the end, Hillary was able to successfully defend the defendant, but it's clear she didn't enjoy it.
