I just assumed at the time that it was some playful banter because, I mean, it was such a random and pointless insult. I figured since it was so ridiculous it had to be a joke.

And to give you an obvious answer to your question; you can expect, in most situations, that you will be warned for calling another member an asshole, or insulting another member in some fashion.
I've been reluctant to hand out warnings for insults/fighting as of late because a lot of our members like to engage in playful banter, and it can be difficult to distinguish between the stuff that's legit and the arguments that occur just for laughs. Somebody ends up getting warned when they shouldn't have been, and I can't handle the bitchy help request that inevitably follows.
