LOS ANGELES — There were lights ... lots of lights. Not to mention lasers (plenty of lasers), LED-encrusted platforms that raise 25 feet in the air, 15,000-pound camera cranes capable of spanning 75 feet and 18 cameras, hung from every conceivable corner of Staples Center, not to mention a few you couldn't possibly conceive.
Yes, it's Video Music Awards time once again, which means that no manner of technology is left un-explored, no lighting cue un-tested. And on Sunday night, while none of the stars that will grace the big show were inside Staples, there was an army of folks who were. All of them there to make sure each laser is aimed with, well, laser-guided precision, each camera movement rehearsed to perfection. It's the big show, which means it takes a huge amount of preparation to get everything just right.
Head over to MTV's Buzzworthy for a VMA sneak peak at the laser light spectacular!
Green lasers cut across the expanses of the arena, bright blue and white lights flashed, bathing the empty space in an otherworldly glow. Cameras pulled in and out of focus, cranes were raised and lowered. All of this was for one super-secret VMA performance (we're sworn to secrecy), and judging on what we saw, it's definitely going to be one everyone will be talking about following the show.
But that's just one performance. Inside Staples, seemingly every corner of the floor is being utilized for the show. There are jagged stages that wheel across the arena floor, LED-encrusted risers that will send one act surging skyward, and a DJ booth that resembles nothing quite as much as the Mars Curiosity rover. Good thing they spent all Sunday night testing everything; the 20120 VMAs have got plenty of moving pieces, and if all goes according to plan, it's going to be one epic show indeed.

I don't think that super-secret laser show refers to P!nk or...? But still exciting!
