It is, but there's a unique twist of having higher and higher chances at finding a shiny Pokemon the bigger your chain is. Most people stop at 40 chain to start looking for shiny mons, as that's where your chance caps at.

I honestly think we're getting some final scoop on Pokken. There's 4 spots that seem unfilled in the roster. And we don't have Greninja / Jigglypuff yet which seem obvious picks.
