Anyone think the EU might take it easy on an independent Scotland and make them wait a bit, but still take them in with open arms to spite UK once it's out?
I think the EU as a whole will want to take Scotland in as it looks better for them if it was just England + Wales who wanted to leave and an entire country quit the union just to stay in the EU.
Don't all member states have to agree though?
I feel like Spain would want to veto it so Catalan don't get any ideas.
I am not really familiar with the current relations between Scotland, Nothern Ireland and England (I don't include Wales since nobody seems to care about it anyway, so neither will I), but since the Scots have basically remained in the UK because they wanted to be a part of the EU, aren't the English voters telling them:
we don't care about you. leave if you want and yes, we want to reduce the territory of the country we live in.
Is that correct?
The EU was a large part of the Scottish Independence referendum, but in the EU one, most areas in Scotland still had a 40-50% Leave vote.

On the one hand I know Spain is paranoid about regional things, but on the other they may do a haha to Westminster. They're already coaxing Gibraltar so maybe they'll do a "Hey! Come sit with us!" Regina George type greeting to Scotland
The European Commission might not want a nice exit for Britain, but European governments have been a bit more conciliatory. That is one of the problems with the EU - the Commission should be an extension of European governments and represent its members, it should not act independently as its own body.
The Commission is such a mess, it really needs to be sorted out. Seems like such a poor system.
