I love 1989 - I made my friend buy it for me while he was at Target when it came out. But it is not a better album than TPAB. Kendrick's album was beautifully crafted, and to me the best choice for AOTY.
But the Grammys DO traditionally award albums that have enormous hits on them. Kendrick's did not have that and thus it was given to 1989. But then it does bring up the question, what are the Grammys really about then? Definitely not artistic merit.

Sis, you're denying a Taylor hate bandwagon? Go read the threads when Blank Space and 1989 came out. Then look at the threads by the time Wildest Dreams came out. It's undeniable (and very predictable).
I understand you, but as everyone knows, music taste is subjective. While I like some rap albums, I didn't like the spoken-word style of rap on TPAB myself. I absolutely think MBDTF was robbed (it should have been nominated and I wouldn't have even been mad if it won), but Kendrick's style of rap is an acquired taste, and it doesn't shock me AT ALL that many GRAMMY voters probably didn't subjectively like the music as much as the ear candy that is 1989.
Others are talking about how important the album is for its message and historical context, and I agree with that. But that doesn't make it deserving of a music award.
