The chance that this could happen even twice in the entire universe IS minimal. Yes, there are countless galaxies and dimensions out there, and the universe is expanding continuously. That's not to say there isn't life. I believe there may have been life on Mars or any of the other planets in our galaxy before natural disasters took place. If there would be life anywhere, it would have been in our galaxy due to a Earth existing here.
I am aware of the Earth like planet that's been found though. Who's not to say that the planet is fairly new and it's just beginning it's evolutionary journey?
All I know is that we need to keep looking. It will be one of the biggest regrets of my life if I die before finding life on another planet.

Who's to say everything has to be like earth? Maybe on another planet somewhere things are different and beings need different things to survive because of different bodies, or the makeup of their surroundings. It's not likely, but it's not impossible. We will NOT find beings that look and act like us somewhere else in the universe, unless somehow we came from another place, or unless our future selves did somehow invent space travel and time travel. Though chances are life that we find on another planet, if it's intelligent, will be almost impossible to understand or communicate with unless they've been watching us and figuring us out first..
