The chickens vs. the sirens. The darkness vs. the light. The negativity vs. the resurrection. The anger vs. the smile. Unlike the years before, the gap between the Top 2 and the rest of the Top 5 was enormous. But the difference between #1 and #2 was irrelevant and barely existent at all. I had to look for emotional reasons to choose which song would win between these two classics. So, after analyzing the first 4 sentences of this little text, the winner had to be WOMANIZER.
However, it would be unfair to both songs to choose a winner only considering those things, especially since Piece Of Me was destined to be #1 in 2008 since 2007. I adore it, and everyone who knows me knows that as well. But I couldn’t deny Womanizer’s greatness. I have been fighting it, I have been trying not to make it #1 this year due to a biased love for POM, but hell, how could I? The last 3 weeks were decisive, for what matters. Womanizer grew on me in a way I never could expect, and what’s more surprising, it happened right during/after the official release of the second single! I have to say that Womanizer is my favourite song from Circus as of now.
Speaking of chart facts, Womanizer and Piece Of Me are kinda tied on my personal chart – although on the real charts Womanizuh is obviously the bigger hit, on both radio airplay and on what concerns the video... The latter, by the way, it’s very important for me to like a song or not. The Piece Of Me video is good, I really like it, but OMFG, it’s nothing close to the perfection that is the Womanizer video. The Womanizer video brought Britney back for good after 4 years MIA. In other words, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that where Piece Of Me and the whole Blackout era failed, Womanizer and its video alone succeeded.
All of that makes me think 2008 is just the beginning. Britney owns radio again. Britney owns the awards shows again. Britney owns the beauty lists again. Britney owns sales again. BOW TO OUR VERY OWN PRINCESS OF POP, NOW QUEEN OF POP – BOW TO THE PHOENIX THAT IS MISS BRITNEY SPEARS!
