We saw a completely different side of Britney in ‘I Am Britney Jean,’ and I think people are underestimating how much it could help her career. In case you weren’t planning to go to her Las Vegas show, you will want to after seeing the new documentary.
Everyone knew that Britney Spears could dance. We’ve all seen “Slave 4 U.” Everyone knew that she did elaborate sets. We saw clips of her Circus tour — some of us were even there. However, we never got to see the behind-the-scenes footage or the way that the pop star helps with every piece of her performance. After watching I Am Britney Jean, I’ve got to say I’m completely impressed.
Britney Spears’ Documentary: Why It Worked
We all know that Britney has gone through years and years of scrutiny. Sure, her “Oops” days were her peak times, and when she came out with “Gimme More,” she wasn’t looking her best. However, as a Britney lover forever, I’ve always given her a second chance.
Her documentary though, proved that this isn’t the comeback like she had with “Gimme More.” She won’t be hitting the stage at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas with chipped nail polish. No, when Dec. 26 comes around, she will wow every single person in the audience.
The documentary showed many different sides of Britney, and while I loved every one of them, I’ve got to say I was surprised. In her 2008 documentary, Britney: For the Record, the fans appreciated the raw side of the pop star, but her answers came off vague and rehearsed.
The only things rehearsed during I Am Britney Jean were her dance moves — and that alone proved that she’s one of the best pop stars of all time. She’s not a diva. She doesn’t rehearse in high heels and make up. She doesn’t yell at the costume designer when she didn’t love every outfit. She even admitted she has a hard time hurting someone’s feelings so she told her mother when she wasn’t loving something.
Britney’s Dedication & Hard Work Makes For Incredible Performances
I think more than anything this documentary explained Britney: the shy, timid, pop star who isn’t exactly comfortable in her own skin — a normal girl in a relationship who is trying to figure it all out like the rest of us.
Besides the adorable relationships with her kids and family, we got a glimpse of Brit’s relationship with her dancers and crew, who put in 17-hour work days just like she does, who go through serious injuries, and who always are there to support one another.
Many A-listers wouldn’t deal with that — they show up when they have to and leave earlier than everyone else, putting in the bare minimum and hoping for the best. With Britney, we saw that she’s not a bare minimum kind of star. She wants the show to be perfect and with the hard work and dedication she gives, that’s what it will be.
