"Darling you're with me, always around me. Only love, only love. Darling I feel you, under my body. Only love, only love. Give me shelter, or show me heart. Come on love, come on love. Watch me fall apart, watch me fall apart. And I'll be yours to keep. A wind in the shadow, a whale song in the deep. A wind in the shadow, a whale song in the deep. Darling you're with me, always around me. Only love, only love. Darling I feel you, under my body. Only love, only love. Give me shelter, or show me heart, come on love, come on love. Watch me fall apart, watch me fall apart. Watch me fall apart, watch me fall apart. Watch me fall apart, watch me fall apart. Watch me fall apart, watch me fall apart. Only love love love, only love love love, only love love love, girl show me heart. Come on love love love, come on love love love, come on love love love, watch me fall apart. Come on love love love, come on love love love, come on love love love, girl show me heart. Show me love love love, show me love love love, show me love love love, watch me fall apart."
King Ben was top 10 with his album and now he's top 10 with his amazing single, Only Love. Well, as I said before, Ben Howard is my new love and Only Love was his first song that I heard of him. Only Love was good when I heard at the first time but I couldn't imagine that the song could grow on me like that. Ben made my 2013, I was addicted to his songs and his album. Ben Howard really deserves to be a part of my top 10 because he's truly talented and his songs are fantastic. If you don't know Ben Howard you definetly should hear his songs because his voice is lovely and his songs are really great.
#9. Zedd
Clarity (feat. Foxes)
"High dive into frozen waves where the past comes back to life. Fight fear for the selfish pain and it's worth it every time. Hold still right before we crash cause we both know how this ends. Our clock ticks 'till it breaks your glass and I drown in you again. Cause you are the piece of me, I wish I didn't need. Chasing relentlessly, still fight, and I don't know why. If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy? If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?"
Finally Zedd and Foxes became mainstream together, two amazing artists. One of the best electronic/dance songs of the year. Zedd and Foxes was a great combination, to be honest was a surprise for me this collaboration because nobody knew about Foxes. Clarity is fantastic, the beat break, the beats, production and Foxes vocals are so good. Definitely one of the best eletronic songs on the last years.
#8. Cascada
Glorious
"Do you know it’s time to let yourself go? wWhy don’t we just let it show? tell me what you’re waiting for; Cause I, I wanna live before I die. Crash and burn and lose my mind. We can set the world on fire. Tonight we can be... glorious. We are young at heart and we’re free. The world is ours, I can feel the music in me. Glorious, found a love that eyes cannot see. Delirious, oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh [...] I believe the little child inside of me, can reveal my destiny and one day i’ll be breaking free. Now’s the time, we’re running at the speed of light. I’ll meet you on the other side every time i close my eyes. Tonight we can be... glorious, we are young at heart and we’re free. The world is ours, I can feel the music in me. Glorious, found a love that eyes cannot see. Delirious, I can feel the music in me. Glorious... found a love that eyes cannot see, glorious... we are young, oh oh, oh oh oh, we are young, oh oh, oh oh oh, we are young, oh oh, oh oh oh, we are young, oh oh, oh oh oh. Tonight we can be glorious, we are young at heart and we’re free. The world is ours, I can feel the music in me. Glorious, found a love that eyes cannot see. Delirious, oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh"
Yes, Cascada did it again. One more time Cascada is my top 10 and they bring glorious moments for me with this song, lol. I really love Natalie vocals, this woman really catch my attention, everything she sings sounds good for me. Glorious can not be their best song but Glorious still made my 2013 and always will be a place for Cascada here. The beats are kinda generic and I'm not a big fan of the lyric but I don't care, the song is still awesome.
#7. Kelly Clarkson
People Like Us
"They can't do nothing to you, they can't do nothing to me, this is the life that we choose, this is the life that we lead. So throw your fists in the air, come out, come out, if you dare, tonight we're gonna change forever. Everybody loses it, everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes. Oh, people like us we've gotta stick together, keep your head up nothing lasts forever. Here's to the damned, to the lost and forgotten, It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom. Oh, oh, oh, we are all misfits living in a world on fire. Oh, oh, oh, sing it for the people like us, the people like us. Oh, oh, oh, you just gotta turn it up loud when the flames get higher. Oh, oh, oh, sing it for the people like us, the people like us. Oh, oh, oh, we are all misfits living in a world on fire. Oh, oh, oh,sing it for the people like us, the people like us. Oh, oh, oh, you just gotta turn it up loud when the flames get higher. Oh, oh, oh, sing it for the people like us, thee people like us"
WHY, WHY GOD THIS SONG WAS NOT A SMASH HIT AT LEAST IN US? I mean, People Like Us is definitely the kind of song that can give a huge hit for Kelly (I know you all agreed with me). Anyway, People Like Us is powerfull, her vocals are flawless and I love the end of the song when her voice sounds a little husky.
#6. CHVRCHES
The Mother We Share
"Never took your side, never crossed your name. I keep my lips shut tight, until you go-o-oh. We’re in the calmest fire, as we’re ever gonna get. Until you realize, that you should go-o-oh. I’m in misery where you can seem as old as your omens and the mother we share will never keep your proud head from falling. The way is long but you can make it easy on me and the mother we share will never keep our cold hearts from calling. In the dead of night, I’m the only one here. And I will cover you, until you go-o-oh. Cause if I told the truth, I will always be free. And keep a prize with me, until you go-o-oh. I’m in misery where you can seem as old as your omens and the mother we share will never keep your proud head from falling. The way is long but you can make it easy on me and the mother we share will never keep our cold hearts from calling. Into the night for us, we’re the only ones left. I bet you even know, where we could go-o-oh. And when it all ****s up, you put your head in my hands. It’s a souvenir for when you go-o-oh.
I don't have much to say about The Mother We Share. CHVRCHES is definitely one of my favorite new bands and The Mother We Share was love at the first heard. I love songs like The Mother We Share, so sweet, easy and good to hear, really catchy. The Mother We Share is easy to listen and the beats are amazing, It's all about the synthpop and Lauren Mayberry vocals .
#5. London Grammar
Strong
"Excuse me for a while, while I’m wide eyed and so damn caught in the middle. I excused you for a while, while I’m wide eyed and so damn caught in the middle. And a lion, a lion, roars would you not listen? If a child, a child cries would you not give them? Yeah I might seem so strong, yeah I might speak so long, I’ve never been so wrong. Yeah I might seem so strong, yeah I might speak so long, I’ve never been so wrong"
The biggest new band and the best surprise of the year Strong is flawless, I love everything about Strong and London Grammar, Hannah Reid vocals are flawless god bless her voice one more time. In the beggining London Grammar reminded me The XX and that was a great thing because I LOVE The xx, but now I'm totally addicted even more to London Grammar. I think they will be huge soon, sooner or later the world will love them. 2014 will be their year and Strong is starting to smash Europe.
#4. Dido
No Freedom
"I take it by your silence, that I'm free to walk out the door. By the look in your eyes I can tell you don't think I'll be back for more. Try to think of a new world where you could stay and these safe hands could go. Take your heart above the world wherever I choose to go. No love without freedom. No love without freedom. No love without freedom. No freedom without love. Even when you don't see me... Even when you don't hear. I'll be flying low below the sun And you'll feel it all out here. No love without freedom. No love without freedom. No love without freedom. No freedom without love"
Wow, I wasn't expecting for this. I mean, Dido already was #1 on my charts, "Girl Who Got Away" was my favorite album of the year but she's back for one more top 10. No Freedom can not be her best song but I really love this song. Her voice sounds like an angel for me and the production of No Freedom is really good. I really was addicted to No Freedom since the first time I heard and I can not understand why this song flopped (specially for UK that used to love Dido), like I said, No Freedom is not the best single of Dido but the song deserved more, really underrated as her album. Anyway, for me Dido has one of the best comebacks of the year and I really don't give a **** if she's flopping. I mean, IT'S A SHAME because Dido is a great singer, her album is great and her singles are really good but it looks like people just want to know about dance/eletronic songs now. Well, definitely I'm not the guy who's losing a good artist and good music.
#3. P!nk
Just Give Me A Reason (feat. Nate Ruess)
"Right from the start you were a thief, you stole my heart and I, your willing victim. I let you see the parts of me that weren't all that pretty and with every touch you fixed them. Now you've been talking in your sleep, oh, oh. Things you never say to me, oh, oh. Tell me that you've had enough of our love, our love. Just give me a reason, just a little bit's enough, just a second, we're not broken, just bent and we can learn to love again. It's in the stars, It's been written in the scars on our hearts, we're not broken, just bent and we can learn to love again. I'm sorry, I don't understand where all of this is coming from. I thought that we were fine (oh, we had everything). Your head is running wild again, my dear, we still have everythin' and it's all in your mind (yeah, but this is happenin'). You've been havin' real bad dreams, oh, oh. You used to lie so close to me oh oh. There's nothing more than empty sheets between our love, our love, oh, our love, our love [...] Oh, tear ducts and rust. I'll fix it for us. We're collecting dust but our love's enough. You're holding it in. You're pouring a drink. No, nothing is as bad as it seems, we'll come clean. Just give me a reason, Just a little bit's enough, just a second, we're not broken, just bent and we can learn to love again. It's in the stars, It's been written in the scars on our hearts, we're not broken, just bent and we can learn to love again [...] Oh, we can learn to love again. Oh, we can learn to love again. Oh, that we're not broken, just bent and we can learn to love again."
Oh my god, queen P!nk... what a lyric, what a duet, what song, that's why she's one of the best artists of all time. I was unsafe when I knew that Nate would be part of the song because I wasn't a big fan of his voice and neither a fan of fun. and I couldn't imagine how the song would be. I'm glad that I was wrong, they did an amazing job. Just Give Me A Reason is a great duet and a beautiful combination of voices. I have no words to express how I love this song, Just Give Me A Reason really can touch my soul.
#2. Alanis Morissette
Receive
"I wake up and first things first, I'm of service. I make sure your needs are met, I'm so selfless. I give hard and serve hard and now I, I need a break. I give in, I give all and now it's time to regenerate. Today's all about me, about cup filling. Today's all about me, learning how, how to receive. How to receive. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. My habit to love you first, in me it lingers. To renew is so knee jerk, leaves me a stranger. I give hard and fight hard and now I need to retreat. I give out, dedicate and now I need to acknowledge me. Today's all about me, all about cup filling. Today's all about me, learning how, how to receive. How to receive. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh. How to receive. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh. How to receive. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh. How to receive."
Everything that I said about Dido I can say for Alanis too, but anyway. Oh my god, I can't believe Alanis is here. Morissette was a surprise for me last year, her last album (Havoc and Bright Lights) was my top 10 and now she's top 10 with her single too. I always liked Alanis but I was not expecting for this. I really don't know how I started to LOVE Receive, maybe reminds me her old songs or a good time of my life when the world used to love Alanis. Receive always was ok for me, I mean, just a good song and nothing special but the song was growing, growing and growing on me last year until possess my heart. For me Receive is simple but that's why I love this song, really pure, Alanis vocals are so good. Long life for this great artist, Alanis Morissette.
#1. Armin van Buuren
Waiting for the Night (feat. Fiora)
"Shoot me down and I'll get up again. Emotions running high with double meaning. Just another day to keep it calm within. I can't find a way to fight this shadow dreaming. We're always waiting for the night. Never lost, we can go where the light shines brightest. We're always waiting for the night, so come with me and we can go where the light shines brightest. Stay all night, run away all night, we'll stay all night, run away all night. Stay all night, run away all night, we'll stay all night, run away all night."
THE BIGGEST SURPRISE OF THE YEAR. You know when you listen a song and the song can move your mind? you can feel in another world? place? country? that's what happen when I listen Waiting for the Night. I don't know how to explain but this song makes me happy, I love everything about Waiting for the Night. The production is awesome, the vibe of this song is awesome, I love the trance beats and Fiora vocals are flawless. I can feel something nostalgic when I listen Waiting for the Night too, I don't know how to explain very well. I KNOW Waiting for the Night can not be the best song for my #1, but to be honest Just Give Me A Reason deserves #1 but I can be unfair WFTN was a big part of my 2013, more than the other songs. OMG I'm almost forgeting, I L O V E the music video.
Man, I know that I missed a lot and the rest of this Best of. I’m going to comment on the top 50 of the top songs countdown.
The City of Angels is such a wonderful song and enjoyed the lyrics to the song. King and Lionheart is good one, like Clown, Losing You is wonderful with amazing sound and stellar vocals done well. Royals rules and My Number is catchy.
Radioactive! Radioactive! Well, at least it’s in the top 40. See You Again is wonderful, This Is What It Feels Like is a good song and Armin’s most mainstream song yet. Get Lucky is epic and one of the best from 2013. Wasting All These Tears is such an amazing song with good pop influences in this country song, DNA is nice, Brave is inspirational and helps get people together, Paper Doll is nice.
Wake Me Up has a good mix of music that I liked and enjoyed the song a lot, Goodbye, Goodbye is such a wonderful song. Latch is good, Forever is one of fav songs from them, Sex is such a good song to just listen along to, Drinking From The Bottle is alright, not my fav from him. Ellie knows I care for her. It’s a nice song that is genius.
Commentary this time yes! Closer gets the party going in such a different and cute way, Safe and Sound has come a long way from being completely unknown in 2011 to get some love in 2012 and instant smash in 2013-one of the best. INYL is good with Ellie’s vocals going well with Cal’s production. The video is very cute and happy. I wonder how much fun did Ellie and Calvin had in the video? Funny they are.
Hold On, We’re Going Home is such a good song with such a good vibe, Live for the night is ok, Hurricane gets better after each listen and like the vocals so much. Chocolate is one of the best from 2013, like how the way Lana sings in YAB and does well to have faith that she will still be loved by her lover as she loses her YAB self.
In the top 10 I remember Only love-It’s a nice song. Sweet, sweet Clarity, Glorious is alright, People Likes Us is fine, but got bored of it quickly. Agreed what you said about The Mother We Share esp. the synthpop glory and Mayberry’s vocals, No Freedom is fine, JGMAR is one of the best from 2013, Receive is nice, and surprising #1 for sure. Waiting For The Night sounds so good and like the vocals and Fiona looks pretty. Good job by Armin.
Overall amazing music found in this solid countdown. You know some different type of music that I like to check out. Good job.
