February 13th - February 19th, 2009
The Valentine's Day edition sees the beginning of the descent for many of the year's earliest hits. But first,
The Killers score a third non-consecutive week at the top with their Top 10 Alternative hit,
Spaceman. Below them,
Kings of Leon,
Franz Ferdinand,
Britney Spears, and
Jay Z/Santogold, have all lost their bullets - leaving
MGMT as the next viable threat in the top 5.
Kids is a terrific track, so do not count it out, and is up to #4 this week matching the peak of
Electric Feel in 2008.
Below that crowd,
Lily Allen is on the verge of another top 5 hit following
Smile as
The Fear skips up to #6. The likes of
Ne Yo and
The Fray fill out a rather full-bodied bottom half of the top 10.
T.V. On The Radio also score their second top 10 hit with
Golden Age, as
Wolf Like Me hit #5 in 2006.
Three debuts this week! The first is the auto-tuned infectious stylings of
Jamie Foxx/T-Pain, with
Blame It, which I'm sure is going to explode in the next month or so. Hot on the heels of a terrific Grammy performance,
T.I./Justin Timberlake finally make it on board with
Dead and Gone. T.I. is looking to make it three straight top 10's off of "Paper Trail". And last but not least,
Franz Ferdinand are on board again with
No You Girls, the sensational follow-up to their #3 smash,
Ulysses.
Kings of Leon have reason to celebrate as
Sex On Fire is the first single to peak at #3 that would eventually go on to retire. All songs that have retired in the past charted at least at #2 or better.
