Yeah, it's bugging me too. He said CNN is trying to confirm the account that he gave his gun to police and went home. I'm sure CBS has already confirmed that by now though (I haven't checked).

The Dallas Chief of Police did specifically state that they wanted to speak with that specific man which is why he keeps bringing him up, but I wish he would focus more on the two actual snipers.
