I haven't seen Cate's performance, but I am sure it's wonderful, so I am gonna root for her too.

Same. I thought Amy did a great job.

That's a disaster of a review. Christian Bale carried the movie, but Amy, Bradley and JLaw were excellent still.

TBH. But I loved the performances, mainly Renner, Bale and Adams. Feel like both Coopers and Lawrence's performances are a bit overrated, I can see why with Jennifer but Bradley is surprising. The movie itself was ehhh for me.
Joaquin deserved a nom over Bale though.
Julia getting a nomination for her basic performance in August also <<<<

What the hell? Have we seen the same movie?

I must say though - this year's noms are kinda boring and predictable, and mostly your usual Oscar baits. The only thing that really stands out as different in that list is "Gravity" and "Her". Last year had so much more variety, with "Life of Pi", "Beasts of Southern Wild", "Argo", "Zero dark thirty", and "Django Unchained" making it to the shortlist.

I thought Christian Bale carried American Hustle and really deserved the nomination. Amy Adams and Bradley Cooper weren't convincing. Jennifer Lawrence was great and stole every scene she was in, deserved the nomination, but should not win. Lupita should win it.
The tight races are between:
Actors: Mathew > Leonardo
Actress: Cate Blanchett>Sandra Bullock
Supp Actor: Jared Leto
Supp Actress: Lupita>JLaw
Film: Gravity>12 years>American Hustle

yeah, Roberts was terrific in A:OC. Dunno if Meryl really deserved a nom even though she was good.
Joaquin should've got in over Christian Bale.

that was the whole point, her accent is supposed to be bad

Whilst good, American Hustle is so overrated to me. I don't get why it's being worshipped. Wolf of Wall Street, Saving Mr Banks, 12 Years a Slave and Gravity outshone it for me. Can't comment on Captain Phillips, Her, August Osage County and Blue Jasmine yet.
In terms of Amy Adams vs. Jennifer Lawrence, I'd say it's unfair because JLaw was comic relief whilst Amy had lot more work to do to carry the film. Their roles and purpose were different, with JLaw getting the more immediate appreciation through laughter.
I'm sad that they snubbed Saving Mr Banks, but I guess it's because they didn't want or have room for two Tom Hanks films and nominations, and they couldn't nominate Emma Thomson without him.

I dislike the whole movie. Don't think the performances were anything special either.

Don't forget Amour! Poor Emmanuelle Riva was snubbed on her BIRTHDAY of all possible moments! The Oscar should have been hers. (Even if Lawrence gave an iconic and exceptional performance. SLP was no Winter's Bone)

Bale is a more versatile and capable actor than Phoenix. Bale is one of the bests (Empire of the Sun, American Psycho) ever.

Bale's one of the greatest. But to me Joaquin in Her > him in AH.

I seriously loved every second of it. The whole movie stands and falls with Meryl and Julia. Meryl slayed me in the very first scene, but okay, I admit this may be because I stan for her Julia was awesome imo, she even overshadowed Meryl which is freaking hard to do. I will remember the "Eat the ****ing fish, bitch" scene for a very long time.
But okay, everybody has different opinion.
