Aww, I didn't put Tango in the Night? My bad. I love Tango. It doesn't get enough credit imo It's the only FM album where all of Christine's songs slay, which is quite a feat for ha!

60. Janet Jackson - janet. (1993)
Points: 249
Submitters: DevonDreams, DoubleDutchess, Crescendolls., Kings., lonnie
Contemporary R&B, Pop
New Jack Swing, Dance-Pop |
Quote:
Janet (stylized as janet.) is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Janet Jackson, released on May 18, 1993, by Virgin Records America.
While pop and R&B had been standard components in her music, she broadened her compositions by incorporating hip hop, opera, house and jazz, eliminating the rigid, industrial sound of her previous records. Although she earned a reputation as an advocate for sexual abstinence with her 1986 single "Let's Wait Awhile", the theme of Janet is sexual intimacy—an abrupt departure from her conservative image. It cemented her as an international icon and sex symbol, and is listed by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 200 Definitive Albums of All Time.

59. David Bowie - Hunky Dory (1971)
Points: 250
Submitters: ShantiAshtangi, Brando, Mirrorcle Monster, Bríseis, Yayo
Glam Rock, Pop Rock, Art Rock
Singer/Songwriter, Baroque Pop |
Quote:
Hunky Dory is the fourth album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, recorded in mid-1971 and released by RCA Records that December. It was his first release through RCA, which would be his label for the next decade.
Hunky Dory has been described by AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine as having "a kaleidoscopic array of pop styles, tied together only by Bowie's sense of vision: a sweeping, cinematic mélange of high and low art, ambiguous sexuality, kitsch, and class". The album has received critical acclaim since its release, and is regarded as one of Bowie's best works. Time chose it as part of their "100 best albums of all time" list in January 2010, with journalist Josh Tyrangiel praising Bowie's "earthbound ambition to be a boho poet with prodigal style".

58. Joni Mitchell - Hejira (1976)
Points: 253
Submitters: StonedSoulPicnic, Blueberry Mary, Mr. Fahrenheit
Singer/Songwriter
Jazz Fusion, Vocal Jazz, Folk |
Quote:
Hejira is the eighth studio album by the Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, released in 1976.
The album title is a transliteration of the Arabic word hijra, which means "journey", usually referring to the migration of the Islamic prophet Muhammad (and his companions) from Mecca to Medina in 622. The songs on the album were largely written by Mitchell on a trip by car from Maine back to Los Angeles, California, with prominent imagery including highways, small towns and snow. The photographs of Mitchell on the front and back cover were taken by Norman Seeff and appear against a backdrop of Lake Mendota, in Madison, Wisconsin, after an ice storm.

57. Curtis Mayfield - Superfly (1972)
Points: 256
Submitters: Wicked, StonedSoulPicnic, KingKunta, like2throw
Funk, Chicago Soul, Film
Psychedelic Soul |
Quote:
Superfly is the third studio album by American soul musician Curtis Mayfield, released in July 1972 on Curtom Records. It was released as the soundtrack for the Blaxploitation film of the same name.
Superfly, along with Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, was one of the pioneering soul concept albums, with its then-unique socially aware lyrics about poverty and drug abuse making the album stand out. The film and the soundtrack may be perceived as dissonant, since the film holds rather ambiguous views on drug dealers, whereas Curtis Mayfield's position is far more critical. Like What's Going On, the album was a surprise hit that record executives felt had little chance at significant sales. Superfly is one of the few soundtracks to out-gross the film it accompanied.

56. 2Pac - All Eyez on Me (1996)
Points: 263
Submitters: DevonDreams, Crescendolls., KingKunta, jdmc218, 6 Apple St., Mr. Wonder
West Coast Hip Hop, Gangsta Rap
G-Funk, Pop Rap |
Quote:
All Eyez on Me is the fourth studio album by American rapper 2Pac, released on February 13, 1996 under Death Row Records and Interscope Records.
The album is frequently recognized as one of the crowning achievements of 1990s rap music. The album featured the Billboard Hot 100 number one singles "How Do U Want It" and "California Love". All Eyez on Me was included in Rolling Stone's essential recordings of the 1990s. Spin magazine gave it a 7 out of 10, writing that, "As long as you don't expect philanthropy from Tupac, you'll find honesty and some pleasurably twisted scenarios." The record ranked No. 3 on Entertainment Weekly's list of Top 10 albums of 1996. AllMusic stated that "despite some undeniable filler, it is easily the best production 2Pac's ever had on record".

Poor Curtis. I don't listen to Superfly that often but Freddie's Dead is one of my fave songs.
AEOM is the wrong 2Pac album to get 6 votes!

I was thinking about that too and it is the tea. Superfly is the single greatest movie soundtrack of all time. He was also the sole writer and producer of every song on it just like Prince.
My trinity
1. Give Me Your Love
2. Freddie's Dead
3. No Thing On Me (Cocaine Song)

If I can make a suggestion please, would you consider adding with the short quote about the album also three main songs to highlight out of each album? I think it would be interesting for those who may not be fully familiar with an album. Further step, a hyperlink to either the full album to listen to or the highlighted songs would be super-helpful... although a bit of extra-work, I understand. Appreciated either way. Thank you.

I never got into Hejira Blue is obvs a masterpiece and I love C&S and Ladies, but most of her other albums haven't connected with me. Maybe I'll listen to this one again when I'm bored.
