She was not pitting minority activist groups against each other or stepping at one to raise the other lol
M.I.A. often touches the issues blacks have to face (especially in Africa), the remarks are scattered through her whole discography. The "police shots (whats up with that)" in her latest single was clearly a shout out to BLM. And she has praised Bey multiple times.
What she said was actually not a social justice critique, but a critique aimed at mainstream media and platforms. Its true that after 9/11 are muslims antagonized in American and western media to such a degree that many people even fail to understand that its muslims who are suffering the most from all the terrorism, being killed, enslaved, bombed, oppressed and just see them all as a threat.
There is the need for support, but media arent really allowing it. M.I.A. has several songs that were refused by various American platforms and its hard to get something going. I have put a vid of Palestinian boy being arrested on YT showing police brutality and it was taken down in two days. (Btw, Palestinians were among the first to voice the support with BLM, and thats how it should be, people should help each other to highlight the social issues, not just claiming that "we are not your mule, do it yourself")
