OK, lemme get this straight: she's selling less than 300k in her first week despite having 8 top 3 hits since her last album was released, a re-release, a tour that had like 135 dates and a good amount of promo for this album? I'm so done really. This proves how much singles-driven she is. Yes, I know all artist are single-driven, but the bigger the ratio between single sales and albums sales is, the more singles-driven the artist is. And don't talk to me about longevity cuz first week sales are the factor that truly measures an established artist's selling power and the demand for them.

You all bringing up Femme Fatale like it matters in this discussion. Like Britney wasn't at a different point in her career.

You all set up ridiculously high expectations for PRISM & didn't learn from 3 years ago. Katy debuted at the height of the rise of the digital era & like other artists that debuted during this time, her album buying fanbase in the initial weeks isn't as strong as artists that debuted before this time. Katy, Rihanna, Miley, etc (in terms of looking at pop girls that rose during this time, Gaga being an exception because she's a phenomenon that built up an incredibly devoted fanbase that purchases in masses). These numbers are excellent, and you all can be disappointed while Capitol & Katy throw a party for the huge rise from TD.

Artists like Katy are more focused on longevity & overall impact throughout an era, 1st week is just the beginning.

The star power is such a subjective scale how to evaluate stars that I woudnt really mention it. But you can live in past when Britney was still the princess of pop and sold great amount of records. I prefer constant long-term sales than being overhyped and frontloaded. It helps the final figures much more.
