Katy's career just started off slower and is now snowballing. Congrats to her every star should get their own moment! Do believe though that GaGa will be back someday even if it's some damp reworking of a piano version of poker face. both are eternal superstars with millions of fans

Who is going to space next year? Katy? No. Who is the 4th most awarded artist OF ALL TIME? Katy? No. Who had their picture up by the Mona Lisa? Katy? No. Who will be remembered? Katy? No.
Found this on another forum about the same exact topic (will Katy out last Gaga):
Lady Gaga thorugh her music, visuals, fashion and performances has already made a contribution to the music industry and her name will be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one day. The extremely big sales numbers, tour revenues and awards are nothing but a side effect of her work. She aims to be judged and remembered by her art, not by the grade of success she achieves.
I don't know even where to star. First of all, her name (alongside with The Black Eyed Peas and David Guetta) is associated with the EDM revolution of 2008-2009, the time when the music with a straightforward nightclub nature paved its way to the radio and mainstream appeal. The influence of this trend on the airwaves is undeniable. I know it's not because of Gaga that EDM became so popular, but the way she masterfully combined electronic sound with retro influences and catchy pop hooks certainly had its effect. Even Billboard in the article with Redone interview described how many DJs became producers.
No other star since that time caused such of a stir in mass media. She became the first artistic phenomena of the social internet generation, building her fanbase and Fame through YouTube, twitter, MySpace and Facebook. Even the simple statistics in searches and the numbers of articles published on Gaga in 2009-2011 will reflect the idea that her rise to the stardom was sensational. She got so much attention for what she was wearing, but she also made people analyze her work, performances and pay actual attention to the material she releases. The Gaga fever back in the days was exceptional.
To be honest, I believe the main Gaga influences on the industry are theatrics in entertainment, which she loves so much, and her re-invention of the music video format. And also fashion! (looking good and feeling fine )
Under theatricality I understand the fact that she gave a breath to some new energy in the show business, making people think of the "show" part, too. She inspired weirdness among fellow pop stars and a new approach to the entertainment - more fantasy in the music!
Also, I believe she completely redefined the meaning of a music video for the song. She turned the release of her every music video into a big event and a little sensation from Paparazzi to Alejandro. She reminded people how important the visuals are in art, how music video is a way to explore the deeper meaning of the song and give the song a new vision. The music videos were reconsidered as one of the biggest promotional tools for the song due to the rapid growth of YouTube. But Gaga started it all: Bad Romance was the first YouTube video ever to cross 200,000,000 views
I won't say a word about her fashion influences just... because. The legacy of this can't be disputed because of the jokes about meat dress and "You look like Lady Gaga" phrase to describe the out-of-this world outfit and "something Lady Gaga would normally wear" phrase to describe a fashion line.
What's cool with Gaga is that she is recognized through her contribution to the industry, through pushing some boundaries or re-pushing them. She doesn't want to be remembered because she was successful or recognized through the number of No. 1 songs - this is what I love about her so much

You need to calm down.Being in space doesnt make you successful.Gaga will be remembered for at least 10 years.Katy will be forgotten too.But now Katy is more successful and more liked by GP.Gaga is out of her weird stuff. And fame is going away.

Katy hasn't done something that people would remember years from now.
But Gaga did. Music videos, some antics, public appearances (meat dress, vessel).
Katy may be outlasting her this era, but I don't see her doing it in career. And her picture being next to the Mona Lisa and her going to space are valid facts.

I think Katy will outlast Gaga in the mainstream (already apparent) but I believe Gaga's dedicated fanbase is larger and that Katy prob has more fans but less stans. Not trying to make Gaga out as some deep prodigal daughter or anything like that just a commentary on the fanbases.

No. Talentless artists like Katy Perry disappear. She won't be around in 10 years. Gaga will outlast her in terms of impact, music and tours.

Oh, one more thing. Katy Perry's flop era will come eventually, in 3-4 years. It will be the end of her. Not the type of 4/ARTPOP era. Much worse.
