I think it's good she doesn't join the armageddon-prophets but still shows where she stands on this issue. Yeah i know what you mean and personally i agree that popular vote should matter the most, but they've had this system all the time. Should've been changed, if deemed wrong, long time ago. So many didn't show up, which is really bad.
The Dems need a fresh, new name that can gather the public to 2020 and that things changes up in 2018 midterms already.
I'd love it to be a woman, but he/she has to be fresh and not tied to the establishment as much.
