I actually loved the video. I think it's cute and it took away the sexual connotation that came along with the lyrics. It was just a really cute, fun video. Idk why people seem shocked by it as if they didn't know this was the route Katy was going to take. Regardless, this song will smash.
Excuse me? I love Katy's music. Just because I'm a gaga stan doesn't mean I can't enjoy & discuss Katy, too. Birthday is an iconic song and deserved an iconic video, not this mess. Don't be mad at me because Katy released an awful video.
My biggest problem with this (aside from the crippling disappointment of what the video could have been) is that the song essentially plays second fiddle to the video; they don't work in tandem. You coud easily forget that you're even supposed to be listening to the song while watching it. It just doesn't market the song well, which is the whole point of a music video. I mean, it'll get those streaming points, but its sales effect will be diminished.
