Serious videos can be boring, stale and show no imagination whatsoever.

What Katy did was creative, completely out of the box and unexpected, especially for a song like Birthday, yet at the same time it fit the meaning PERFECTLY. It was comedic, it was clever and it was executed VERY well. Most of all, it's UNIQUE, NO other artists are making music videos like these, pop star or otherwise.

Sometimes I really wonder about people who would rather your stock standard sexy girl singing about sexual innuendoes music video over something like what Katy has just produced, the single most inventive music video since who knows when.

She can do serious videos well, see "Teenage Dream" and "Unconditionally." I don't mind some degree of humor (and really the song does call for some), but this is, as someone put it, Adam Sandler level comedy. It's barely even funny.

nnn I don't find Adam Sandler funny in the slightest, but this MV just kept me smiling. I guess we're just different, man. But I loved it through and through.

The video is really good.

It takes the sexual context out of the song, which was pretty gross imo and works well with the candid camera concept. Katy is pretty good with comedy and sell every character.
