this reminds me, I had 4 Canadian quarters because the machine spit them out. I guess US coinstars don't accept Canadian currency. Do people that live further away from Canada have to deal with consistently getting Canadian quarters in their change or is that just because I live relatively close to the border

Canadian machines ALWAYS take American coins. I haven't tried it in Detroit but I would assume they generally don't (cashiers don't accept Canadian money either, but they do accept USD in Canada). I have TONS of American change mixed in with my Canadian stuff.

No where in the US accepts Canadian coins. I accidentally got a few quarters mixed in and paid at McDonalds in LA once and she threw it back and said "We don't take monopoly money."

It's probably just cause you live near the border. I didn't even realize anywhere (Even near the border) took our money.

racisme. I know people who, if they pay in cash and get Canadian currency when the cashier gives them their change, will refuse to take it and ask for American quarters because you can't use Canadian quarters for anything over here. so annoying

CAD is worth less than USD, which is why most US retailers or even Americans don't want it, and also why everywhere in Canada accepts it.
