Lmaooo wasting her career?
She's evolving as an artist, trying new genres, taking risks, pushing her boundaries. Her music this era is more mature. Y'all want her to make a new album that sounds like one she has recorded 5 years ago?
Rihanna already proved that she can make #1 hits and all that ****, when making R8 I bet she didn't even think about making a #1 hit, it was all about making songs that she can perform in 15 years (like she said).
She's in the industry for 10 years, now called an icon, she has her own label, that's the right time to take those risks and people are actually praising her for this; FFS received rave reviews from both music critics & the GP. Then look at the comments below AO video & check the song's reviews. With all those overproduced generic songs on mainstream radios she's making a difference by releasing a meaningful song, and she's using her notoriety to send out an important message, while she could take the easy way & make another radio-friendly club banger. But she didn't, and I'm proud of her for that.
Basically the only ones who think she's "wasting her career" are some of the fans that are on here. I highly doubt that Rihanna is worried about how her songs are doing on the charts right now.
On top of that, she still managed to get another Top 5 hit that is still doing great on the charts 3 months after its release (with very little promotion). She also topped US iTunes for a week with a urban song that only got 2 promo slots & no video. Let's see what happens with AO & the album, but even if they don't sell as much as expected, she's already winning with this era.
The only "risky" thing she's done so far is the whole Tidal exclusive nonsense, which is more a stupid decision than a risky one. And we've already seen the results. Musically, what risks? Four Five Seconds has a typical pop song melody, despite being pretty stripped back. Bitch Better Have My Money is just another typical noisy "ratchet bop" and American Oxygen is just another mid-tempo pop song that happens to sound like an unfinished demo. The fact people aren't responding to them with as much enthusiasm doesn't mean the songs are somehow revolutionary or boundary breaking. They're simply not as good as her usual output. And ''more mature?" Which of these songs is more mature than Diamonds or Stay or Love Without Tragedy or Mother Mary or Half of Me..... before we even get into the albums before Unapologetic? Is it Four Five Seconds, the song about being a few seconds away from 'wilding'? Or Bitch Better Have My Money, the noisy rant about being owed money and turning up 'while the whole club ****ing wasted'?
