Flops' back catalogs sell. But yeah, the bold is basically the answer. ***insert Tiziano's shrug and puckered lips gif here***

Pop culture is **** right now because those at the top are manufactured business products. Say what you will about Gaga, but when she was slaying it kept things exciting - whether you liked her or not you had an opinion. Everyone in mainstream pop music today (her included, sadly) is subpar

True. I remember Gaga used to make such a big buzz during her BTW and Judas days. What a short lived peak.

Right, and people moved on. Gaga was definitely interesting when she was at the top, but in no way the whole "weird & crazy/music is art" shtick was going to last long. Being "basic" is what kept people like Beyonce, Jay-Z and Eminem at the top for so long. Gaga rejuvenated the pop scene; you can't take that away from her. But really, where do you go from there?

Oh I'm not arguing that Gaga severely mismanaged her career, and made every possible wrong decision she could have since 2011. I'm just saying that she was probably the last truly exciting pop girl we had. She took over from Britney, who had taken over from Madonna. Yes Beyoncé's album release was exciting but since then she's kind of fallen off of the map, Katy is a manufactured prostitute, Rihanna is too lazy to commit to an era, who else have we got? Kesha???

I don't think Gaga mismanaged her career, or at least I don't think that is the reason she saw an inevitable decline in everything across the board. I just think her shtick was never meant to be a long-term thing.
Say what you want about P!nk, but she tapped into an audience and found a niche that is bound to keep her around for awhile - even without cultural impact (stuff that is really irrelevant to longevity). Same with Eminem (though he had a ton of cultural visibility, just had a very stagnant moment). People always go back to the "basics" because that's what is relatable. Gaga will need a whole revamp of image and musicality if she wants to be at the top again or at least someone who doesn't necessarily slay with every era but has remained well-liked and respected years after her peak.

Explain.
Jay-Z hasn't really changed his image, sound or anything major. Not to mention his mediocrity over these last several years. He's still relevant or even more relevant than he's ever been before.

Gaga is never coming back, she's too egotistical and proud to go back on every thing shes said. She's too old and saggy to be a cute basic pop girl, especially after she's been 'weird' for the last 4 years. Tbh id rather she sacrificed commercial success and delivered quality - one of the reasons I think ARTPOP was so messy was because she was trying to rehash her old stuff but make it come across as super artistic and innovative. She should just focus on making a good pop record.
I do want someone exciting to debut and take the world by storm like she did though

Oh, he's basic, I know that. But he hasn't been a prominent figure in music for a very long time - Holy Grail doesn't count, the success of the song was all attributable to JT.

But yes, pop culture and the pop music scene is very boring. But luckily, I'm not struggling because I always find good music outside of pop radio and the iTunes top 20. And pop culture doesn't really interest me much.

?
His last few albums went platinum and he has produced several hits these last few years. Jay-Z has been riding high since 1996.

Why are you on ATRL then? yes obviously there is a lot of amazing music outside of the top 20. But the fun of a pop act is the videos, the performances, the iconic moments. All that stuff that homos adore
