I mean, I love the song, it's a bop, but it's not really lead single material imo and just comes off as very try-hard. I don't want that again for Kesha.
I'm definitely not here for something electro-dance pop either as the lead single, I mean it's been done before, nothing new. It'd most likely be a bop and slay but that's not what we're after here, growth is key... I agree that a folk sound does show that but one also needs to keep the GP on the mind.
I can't think of what I want it to sound like because I don't want to be able to compare it to anything, tbh. I wouldn't really call "Ugly Heart" folk inspired though just because it uses a ukulele.

Agree and Agree however even though the Ukulele isnt a folk/country instrument the arrangement of the song makes it seem like it was folk inspired - and its a cute song its just recycling what is now become an over done trend. I even think her doing a song like Wake Me Up/Hey Brother would be a bit underwhelming even though thats what I always wanted her to do.
Its going to be really difficult for her to really smash this era (not because its her but because the chart climate has become so unpredictable) however I think if she attacks the growing alternative trend and makes a catchy track that people can belt along too, she has a great chance. Especially because she is showing a more likeable side to her lately.
That being said I really don't want her to come out with something dark and experimental for the first single, I need it to be fun, catchy and unique whilst also showing a different more vulnerable side to her but I honestly cant pin-point an exact sound that would demonstrate that - but I believe she would have the most luck with a folk/country inspired pop track.
