Popster Perry Promoting New Astral Radio On Demand Music Service
Astral Radio’s new on-demand music and music video streaming service is accessible from its radio station websites, and it uses a dedicated on-demand player to connect music lovers via social media platforms for sharing and discovery of new content.
A promotional campaign for the new service features pop star and recording artist Katy Perry, and a series of 0:15 promo spots, which will be featured in all Cineplex theatres across Canada, as well as in a digital online marketing campaign.
The on-demand music service is driven by significant agreements reached among Astral Radio and the four major music labels, IDLA (the Independent Digital Licensing Association), as well as the CMRRA (Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency), SODRAC, Soproq and Re-sound.
With many agreements already signed in Quebec, Astral says it expects additional agreements with other key Quebec labels to be made in the coming months.
“The CMRRA applauds Astral for investing in the marketing and exposure of music on digital platforms in Canada. Our mandate continues to be ensuring music is consumed and enjoyed on multiple media platforms and that the creators are compensated for their work,” noted David Basskin, CMRRA's President and CEO.
The new service has been launched on all of the Virgin Radio stations in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver), the NRJ network across Quebec, and various other Canadian Top 40 format Astral stations, such as HOT 103 and the Sun fm network.
It also offers exclusive content, weekly releases, a music video library and customizable playlist functions, as well as specialized web radio channels.
“Katy Perry’s interest in promoting new and emerging talent is a perfect match for the on-demand music experience we are offering to Canadian consumers,” said Rob Farina, Executive Vice-President, Content, at Astral Radio.
