It has been a long and hard-fought tournament, but we have finally reached its conclusion. After seven rounds, 230 votes and 62 fallen contenders, ATRL has crowned its champion. In the battle of classic Hollywood ballads, is it #1 "Over the Rainbow", from 1939's The Wizard of Oz, or #1 "Moon River", from 1961's Breakfast at Tiffany's? It was another tight contest, as the they traded the lead and one song pulled away only in the final moments.
By a vote of 12-10, the winner of ATRL March Madness 2016 is...
(1) "Moon River" Breakfast at Tiffany's
Congratulations to "Moon River" on its well-deserved title of the gold standard Best Original Song! Though the tournament largely played out as the draw expected, is it strange to say this final victory by a #1 seed feels like a minor upset of the "Rainbow" juggernaut? Thank you so much to everyone who participated these past few weeks! It has been so much fun discussing Oscar's favorite music with you, and your dedication kept this thread afloat. I am incredibly appreciative of your support. (What do you say we meet back up same time next year for another go?) If you want to see the complete results, and relive all the great memories, the final tournament draw is posted below (or find a larger version here):
